Help me build my $1500 tax return rig! - Page 3

I can't find a real test that shows crossfired 6950 2gb's vs. a single 7950, but look at these http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7950-overclock-crossfire-benchmark,3123-9.html

The 6950 2gb seems to be about 35-50% slower at stock settings on both cards. (20% in Dirt 3, 40% in 3dMark11, 36% in Battlefield 3 AA off and 50% in BF3 AA On)

If the second card even has 60% scaling, then you will beat a single 7950 and will have spent less money. (power consumption will be greater though)

A single 6950 2gb is definitely slower, but there are very few games that it will not max out! I wouldn't get hung up on needing a brand new card as you will pay more than 100% increase in price for 40% increase in performance.

Get the 7950 for sure. Less power consumption, better performance, and you have the budget for it.

If possible, wait 2 months for Kepler and Ivy Bridge and make a much more informed decision.

If not:

I5-2500k, 8gb ram, 7950, 850W PSU, good Z68 mobo, a SSD that's properly sized for your needs (prob 64gb or 128gb), and a case that you like.

I chose Asus for the UFEI; you could also go with the Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3P, ASRock Z68 EXTREME4 GEN3, or MSI Z68A-GD65.
Here's food for thought- Buy a 7950 now, buy a second 7950 and a second ssd for raid with next years tax return....

Thanks for the links! Other than SSD caching (which im googling right now) what significance does the the z68 platform have over the p67? I noticed all the mobo's you linked were z68.
