Yes, it is possible. See Nvidia's own diagram below:-
If you plan only to drive a 2nd and/or 3rd monitors, then a very basic and (relatively) cheap graphics card will do (eg GT240).
However, if you wish that card also to double up as a dedicated Physx card, then that card should be more powerful (eg GTX460. GTS450 is perhaps a little weak).
On one hand, there are not many good and popular games with Physx. On the other hand, when one of the GTX580 does Physx, it will tie down the other card as well, affecting the performance of the SLIed pair.
So, you have to decide for yourself.
