Which card would you pick? - Page 6

post #51 of 77
Just read through this... OP didnt deserve all that hate just for choosing a 4870... Theres no point in spending more money on a card if you really dont need it. I mean I know this is an extreme example but you dont buy a 7970 just so you can play minecraft do you?

OP I hope you enjoy your 4870! thumb.gif

Gtx 460 and the hd4870 are on the way. I will run some benchmarks and see how big of a difference it is with these 2 cards at my resolution. I already have a buyer for the hd4870 next monday so it will give me this weekend to test the two cards out.

What bench should I use to really test the power of these 2 cards? I need free downloadable bench test's to use. I will run them, record the results and post em up on here.

Do you have any games with built in stress tests? After all real world difference is what we need to determine. Also new vegas does not have a stress test tool but doing a approximate comparison would be nice as its one of the games you said you wanted to play with the card.

IMO a more telling test would be to play the games with Fraps and see what kind of FPSs you get. The main ones that it will matter in are Saints Row and Skyrim.

First, he has ordered his card. And second I disagree.
GTX 460 = 336 Processor Cores
GTX 550ti = 192 Processor Cores

Though the GTX has faster core speed, the thing to look for on Nvidia side are the Processor cores with the few exceptions: 460:336PC VS 465:352PC, but the memory bandwidth and higher clock speed combined with better or more efficient power use of the 1gb GTX 460 gives them an edge over the 465. And the 480-480pc vs 570-480pc, which because of the weaker mosfets on the 570 I would pick the more energy hungry 480, just to get the extra headroom when ocing the card.

I'm not trying to argue or any of that, I'm trying to point out that newer isn't always better.

GTX 460 smashes GTX 550 Ti. GTX 550 Ti = GTS 450 performance.

Newer != better.
