AMD FX Stable Voltages & Frequencies Thread - Page 4

I got stability with pumping up the voltage a little bit. With Prime95 my CPU sits near the valley of death at 57c but ran for over an hour. However, no Prime errors or anything. CPU sits at about 20-30c idle and 35-45c with games.

Nice now looks like it is just a thermal wall block. That is about the same voltage i need for mine to be stable at 4.6

Anyone else notice CPU-z reporting a slightly lower voltage then other programs and what is set in BIOS?

I am running 8120 on gigabyte 970-ud3. I disabled c1e, c6, CnQ, turbo, etc.
I can't get a stable OC at all. I have had CPU vcore up to 1.45v trying to hit 4.0ghz
My temps reach 59c on tmp2. Tmp1 is about 45c and tmp0 is 24-26c. Cores are at about 45-48c.
CPU cooler is hyper 212+ I have 2 yate loons 88cfm blowing as intakes and a single Blademaster on the 212+ pulling. Should I add a yate loon to it for push?
LLC options are auto, regular, extreme (i have set to extreme)
CPU/nb 2400@1.3v
Host clock 200
Ht 2200@1.2v
RAM 1333@1.65v (can't get it to stay at 1600)
Throttles down all the time on testing prime95

At 1.45v in BIOS on CPU it drops to 1.41-1.42v in CPU-z
I can boot in at 4.0ghz but it throttles and reboots
After about 1-2minutes of prime95 the system reboots. No BSOD
I'm totally lost.

Went thru the bulldozer OC guide and I followed the disabling steps in the BIOS.
Sometimes I can't even get it to boot into Windows. Always have to set ram back to 1333 to get into windows

Any advice?

Oh and BIOS is F4

Disable overheat protection from BOIS and see if it stops the throttling. What RAM do you have?

I'm using Corsair xms3 1600mhz 1.65v 2x4gb kit. Does it matter which slots they are in? I have them in slots 2 and 4 instead of 1 and 3. 2 white slots instead of 2 blue slots. Looking at the motherboard its in the slot closest to the CPU and 3rd from the CPU. They are paired correctly for dual channel but I wasn't sure if 2/4 is just as good as 1/3. I may switch them to 1/3 to see if it helps. But I know people can get their ram to run at 1600 in all 4 dimms, so I figured as long as its set in dual channel it wouldn't matter. Plus if I add the xtra fan it may help make room by moving them anyway.

I have Vista on it, would Win7 be better or does that even matter

Also I have the hsf hooked to the mobo fan header. If I ran it off the PSU that should help with the temp too, shouldn't it?

Check you memory timings. Use CL9 or AUTO settings. You can try 1,7 - 1,75v. It's not gonna kill your kit.

ON topic. Got it stable @ 4625Mhz 1,42v yesterday. Will post the results after final stable overclock. Also added a 2000RPM 80mm fan to mu UD5 mosfet heatsink and set my rad fans to 12v. Let the good times roll.

EDIT: Try to overclock the Bus speed and get your memory up tp ~ 1600 Mhz.

Running the AIDA64 stresstest as we speak.
Since I got the FX chip I have seen that AIDA64 fits lika a glove when testeing the FX cpu. smile.gif

Edit: V-core is 1.52 in idle. smile.gif
