720p video only monitor suggestions?

Thread Starter
I currently use a secondary monitor only for video. Basically whenever I am at my computer, I have either 720p movies or TV shows running. What would be an ideal monitor for this setup? I'd really like something that will show blacks as actual blacks and not just grey. No games will ever get played on it.

Should I just get a 1080p TV with HDMI? IPS? Would TN be fine? LED? Specific suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

For the record, I'm a college student on a budget, so as cheap as I can go (without it looking bad), the better.

A TN Monitor would be cheaper than a TV, but you won't get true blacks without a plasma or CRT. Since it seems you're using your computer as basically an HTPC, I'd recommend getting a TV. I can give specific suggestions if you tell me what size would work best and what your max budget is.

Well, my other monitor is 24", so anything close to that would probably work...23-27" I guess?

As far as budget, I guess I'd rather not spend much more than $300, but if I can get something quite good for less, that would be great.

If you want to go with a TN Monitor, here's a good option:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236153

If you want to go with a TV, they are hard to find smaller than 32", but here's a good 32" option:

http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-VIERA-TC-L32C3-32-Inch-720p/dp/B004M8SBCK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1329167314&sr=8-1

I would basically say this: If you're doing the majority of your video watching sitting right in front of the screen, get a monitor for it's smaller pixel pitch. If you're going to watch from across the room, get a TV.

Hope this helps!
