Need help/advice on new GPU!!!

Thread Starter
So I'm trying to SLi my GPU (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130652) but I have a problem...

My motherboard is a micro-atx (DFI Lanparty jr GF9400 T2RS) and I don't have enough room to get a video card that takes up two slots.. which presents another problem!

I can't find a video card with the same amount of ram (I read on the Nvidia FAQ that was a requirement for SLI) that only takes up one slot so here's what I'd like to ask..

Could someone help me find a solution to these problems?

Could I dismantle the shell of the GPU and solder the extra bracket to make it fit? and if the fan is too big replace it with something smaller?

If someone could find me a GPU that has 2gb of GDDR5 that only takes up one slot that would be great too.

As always, I appreciate any help and thank you for reading!

hmm , what case do you have ? there are currently no "low-profile" 550 ti so maybe you could use a pcie riser/ cable with a standard card and mod it a little (zip tie or something) to make it stay in place

put the gpus under water. a couple low p[rofile blocks and some single slot brackets and you are all set.

oh, your cards can have different amounts of memory, but when in sli the amount of available memory will equal that of the lowest card

case = http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811112237

Thats big enough im assuming? so this makes the video plug in higher? wouldn't it have to be really high? I'll look into this after walking dead lol.

I'm not sure what you mean. Could you help me understand with some links or an explanation?

Thanks for the replies guys.

Would do it right?

i was suggesting to water cool them. most gpu blocks are single slot so the cards dont take up so much space. you can also buy single slot pci brackets to replace the doubles that come on them. together, the 2 mods will turn your fat 2 slot card into a slim single slot card.

the would require you to water-cool them though, which isnt the cheapest route to go

here is a pic of a single slot watercooled 8800 with a single slot bracket.

iirc i picked up the brackets from danger den, but i have also seen them at frozen cpu and performancepcs

as for the water cooling components, start looking for what is avaiable for the cards you want to cool. some cards only have limited options, while others have options from every manufacturer. then you have to start looking for a pump, radiator, fans, and possibly a reservoir.

if you want to get into water cooling, pick out some components from the categories above and ask for opinions. many here, myself included, would be more than happy to help.

I'll take a picture of a few angles including this one.

After looking into VGA water cooling blocks I see that some are "Universal" that should cover my card right? because from what I can see they have them specifically for 560s and up but not my 550 =[.

Is that an all encompassing list of what I need for my water system I will start to piece one together to see how much it should cost to see if it's affordable.

I love all the help btw you guys are all stars!
