FAH GPU client released - Page 5

Folding at home is a distributed research program from Stanford University. Check here for more info: http://www.overclock.net/overclock-n...need-know.html

Up to now, we only could use CPU power to fold, but as of today, also GPUs can be used (only ATI 1900 series cards at the moment).

Now, my personal experiences are the following:
  • Folding on a GPU will still result in a 100% load on one core, thus you'd have to give up folding on one core, or on the CPU entirely when you have single core, if you want to fold on the GPU
  • There are a few dedicated WUs for GPUs. Both that seem active are 220 points. At the speed I am folding now, it will take 13 to 13.5 hours to finish one of these (note: I am folding at stock 2D speeds; core = 500MHz / mem = 600MHz)
  • Temps are decent: 50C in my case, but again, only at stock 2D speeds.

I know I wrote a FAQ on overclocking those babies. Just a little hesitant to crank them up that high LOL I am running stock on purpose for now. Will do more testing later when the temps out here drop a bit lower (It was 87F outside today...ambients are a tad high.. LOL)

By the way, this is how the console looks like; you should see progress:

From what I have been reading, that they will only put out 400 to 500 per day, which is pretty good for just up gradeing a video card instead of building whole rigs.

true, but it will cost yuo a core. And based on my experience (again stock 2D speeds) 400 - 500 points seems right. I am pretty sure I can munch down 2 of those WU's per day when I overclock (which would be 440 points)

Well, too late, I already spent 10 minutes running driver cleaner and getting 6.5 on....couldn't find 6.10 quickly either anyway. LOL

Ok, running it now, on mine it actually only shows 25-30% CPU load......and I am using the console version

Let's load up one of my CPU cores......

BTW - my card is climbing to 61c, I jst remembered I set it to run at 50% to see how hot the card gets, so that's probably why my "cpu usage" is 1/2 yours.....

Never mind... it just crashed on me.

Well, according to their FAQ, it' doesn;t really....

HOWEVER....I just started a one of my CPU consoles while the GPU console was running at 50%, and instantly my CPU console stated it could not work on the WU anymore due to stabability, and it was sending what it had completed back. It looks l ike the GPU one is still going though.......

Dare I try my other CPU console???

Dedicate the CPU client to the core the GPU is not using (I parked the GPU on core1 and the CPU client on core2)

I just started my other core and it appears to be working well so far.......it's on the other CPU core....

Oh, FYI, I found this just now....

Okay, there are compounding issues here. The 6.10 drivers are failing on some WUs, and the WU's based off of those will get corrupted as well. We are working on this. For now, we recommend the 6.5 drivers until we can get a work around.

I'm gonna let this run a bit and see, but I may just wait until they get some more bugs worked out first. I can tell myself I am just waiting to put the video card on water so it will do more work though, make me feel better
