Whats the safe overclock (Inc: Voltage) For the AMD X4 955 Black Edition ?

Wondering what the safe overclock is for the AMD X4 955 Black edition using a 650W power cool PSU bought recently and a Asus M5A88-M
Please respond thumb.gif

"Safe overclock" is whatever you can get it to within safe temps and volts.

Max Temp: 62C (under full load, not idle)
Max CPU volts: 1.5v
Max CPU-NB volts: 1.5v (for overclocking the north bridge, this is a big deal)

Try to keep HT near 2000mhz, higher or lower wont help and might reduce stability and/or preformance.
A little extra NB never hurt anyone. In fact, it really helps.

Keep in mind, the VRMs are not cooled on your motherboard, So don't go pushing max voltage. Maybe keep between 1.4 - 1.425v, see how that does first.

Forgot to mension idle temps are 30.C and under full load 45.C does that sound about rite ? biggrin.gif
post #5 of 14

Of course, VRM cooling.  Don't forget!

Sorry im a noob ....... VRM ?

Yea, be VERY careful adding more volts with that motherboard, keep the VRMs as cool as possible! Otherwise, follow what Kyad said, and there are some more guides in my sig if you need them! good luck! thumb.gif

EDIT: VRMs are the voltage regulator modules, they feed the power to the CPU. If you add voltage, they get hotter and can fail if you have a low quality mobo. There are threads on this in my sig as well biggrin.gif

Those are perfect. Mine are 30C load, 47 max (underwater with my overclock and overvolt)

Have a good look at the link in my sig: "About VRMs & MOSFETs"
This should be a consideration made with all 125W Phenom II/FX/100W K APU overclocks.  There are a lot of boards not made for such a task because there is a much broader amount of overclockable boards on AM3 platform than on Intel platforms today.

Thanks for that info on HW MONITOR it says the Main board idle is 30.C and Load is goes to 40.C is that ok ?thumb.gif

Yep, I think 40C is very much acceptable motherboard temps! thumb.gif
