Other than lapping it, you might be able to find a higher flowing fan, but do remember it only can fir a 120x25mm... a 38mm thick fan wont fit.

oh right....i assume that is for slotting it in the middle.

but may i ask, has anyone tried by actually mounting a fan on the front of the cooler, so it will be like one on front and the other inside it?

would that work perhaps? u could use the designed fins on the cooler's side as a hook to help mount a fan on the front.

well thanks for letting me know, then now i would take your advices.

i am literally trying to go on building a computer, with either a Pentium D 900 series or the Intel Core 2 6600 being overclocked.

also a consideration i have in mind is electricity. i do not want too much in my home and that it will be two computers and not only that im on a tight budget but i am tight on the bills as well. hehehehe.

thats something already abit in consideration, but i also the want a fan that doesnt take up much either. by looking at those over cooling methods, maybe they are abit too extreme on the electric? or someone can correct me on that?

for cooling your cpu with an aircooled setup you shouldn't worry to much about electricy usage as most air cooled setups will use very little amount. take for instance delta fans which are known to be some of the highest flowing fans out there right now. they have some that flow in excess of 130cfm in a 120mm package. they use about 9 watts of electricy which isn'tthat much at all. most your normal fans use around what 3-5 watts? plus if you managed to get a cooling solution better then what the zalman has to offer like the tuniq tower, big typhoon, scythe or one of the many others you would actually need to use even less electricity then the zalman would being they are much more efficient at getting rid of the heat for the same amount of airflow

Just to compare results, my Zalman 9500 in my Antec 900 case (lots of airflow) gives me a idling temp of 44 celsius with an overclock of 3.2 ghz on a 6600. Room temperature roughly 70 degrees F.

I've also lapped both the processor and HSF to a mirror finish. Maybe it's my lapping (i used bathroom sink) or maybe I got a bad processor. Either way, i'm not happy with the current performance of my cooler, but it just looks so damn cool/pretty. Since i've already wasted $70 buying this from an overpriced retailer i'm just gonna stick with my modest overclock until I get watercooling... or IF I ever get water cooling with this 900

you may have already seen this, but check the review i recently did comparing a modified zalman 9500 with a scythe infinity.

http://www.overclock.net/intel-air-c...dd-zalman.html

the infinity took about 7 degrees off my load temps.

i agree that the zalman is seductive due to it's design ... but it's tough to make it perform well ... even with a big fast fan added to it.
