Need a little help / advice

Thread Starter
hi,
i am new to these forums, so i am not sure that i am posting in the right place. anyway, i just won an auction on ebay for a new dell xps 700 and i am making plans now to customize it. i have a few ideas and some questions too. first off the system configuration is:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 - Next Gen Processors
XP Media Center 2005 Edition
1 GB Dual Channel DDR2 @667MHz
250 GB SATA 3Gb/s and more
Dual Optical Drives - DVD-ROM and DVD+/-RW w/dbl Layer Write
20 Inch UltraSharp Widescreen Digital Flat Panel
512 MB nVidia GeForce 7900 GTX
SoundbBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Music
4 Year At Home Warranty Support

i am planning on upgrading the RAM to 2 gb corsair TWIN2X2048-8500C5 and i want to ask the community here what they think about upgrading the OS to windows xp pro x64? is there any benefits or downsides? will the xp pro x64 take advantage of the core 2 duo processor or does it depend on the software? any advice or comments would be appreciated.
thank you,

jmf_tracy

8500C5 is not worth it, I'd say get the G.Skill DDR2 800HZ (with black heat-spreaders), the cost is $300 for a 2GB kit last time I checked.

hi everyone,
thanks for the replies.

frozen-liquid - do you think that windows xp pro will offer benefits over windows xp media center? what will it do for me?

nasgul - i chose that particular ram because i believe it is a good choice and should be highly compatible with my system because it was developed jointly between nvidia & corsair and supports sli. my motherboard/chipset and video card are nvidia as well.

anyone else have any input on the OS?

i do not believe xps 700's can use RAM faster than 667MHz. It will work, but at 667Mhz speed. I believe I read this on the dell forums a couple times. You might want to check it out before you purchase some good ram.
