this is good news for enthusiast gamers btw, pairing gcn with piledriver means this time they may enable crossfire with the high end cards aswell, since the new hd7000 cards based on GCN are said to crossfire together nomatter the model or shader count, if that is true then it makes sense what amd is doing
not to mention this is an apu and its already clocked higher than current bulldozers, news have it that ipc is up aswell to atleast match phenom II but its obvious they are able to clock higher like they intended at the first place

Keep in mind though these are based on BD cores, they need to clock 10% higher to match the performance of the Phenom 2 cores. So it probably won't be that much faster than the Llano on the CPU side, but the GPU side should be a good improvement.

while piledriver is faster than bulldozer, trinity will have no L3 cache and as far as I know only 2 modules, also this 15% of improvement comes from higher IPC AND higher clock, even for the higher end am3+ piledriver you wont see 15% higher IPC,
but since most of the notebook llanos are really low clocked, I believe trinity will be a good improvement,

C2Q is still a viable Chip today still able to power todays video cards pretty well so i think Trinity will be a great buy for those on a budget biggrin.gif

Yea, I think i'm going to hold off on my next laptop purchase for one of these chips. does anyone know which chips will be put into laptops specifically?

and which ones will have integrated with dedicated crossfire? Or is that information not out yet...

Yeah these chips are 2nd generation bulldozer cores so you are wrong about it needing 10% higher clock to match phenom. They should be at least as powerful as phenom if not better in single core performance. Also, the CPU and GPU work together to handle workloads therefor allowing for more efficiency and performance. It should be much faster than llano. The Bulldozer architecture is designed for APU hence the single FPU per two integer cores allowing the transfer of heavy FPU workloads to the GPU.

Bulldozer architecture is designed to be in an APU to allow for more efficient and powerful computing hence the whole module design. These chips should turn out great. AMD has stated that the Bulldozer architecture is designed for APUs and that it is basically the backbone to their HSA (heterogeneous system architecture) and SOC (system on a chip). Thats what the whole module design was meant for. To better allow the CPU and GPU to work in harmony for better throughput.

If it does not come close, then why spec them to be 100W TDP? Higher stated TDP means less design wins.

How does AMD define and test TDP again?

Maybe it is only about security since only the Unlocked versions have a TDP of 100W... probably 100W so it's easier to search for a good overclocking board that supports 100W since the rest will be 65W.
