It isn't necessary to have 15Mbps download speeds on 4G LTE networks, and yet we still do. The devices that connect to these networks aren't constantly downloading/uploading massive files either. They're smartphones with 2 or 3GB data caps each month.

Most of the time, devices like the Vita aren't about the "necessary" items. They're about pushing the limits. If it were only about the necessary, they would nixed two cores, lowered the GPU spec, increased the size of the battery, given the device a phone number, and called it the next Xperia smartphone. "Necessary" should play second place to "Over the top" when talking about a next generation mobile console... and yet, I just see a bunch of that necessary. Maybe that's part of the reason why I'm not buying it.

Please show me a game that could use theGalaxy Nexus and compare to ANY game on the Vita, and i bet the Vita games will still look 10x better...

EDIT: the reason why you are not buying it is, Spec on paper doesn't impress you, yet you fail to understand how those spec are put to use...you can have the fastest computer in the world and i bet, my Firefox on my cheap computer still run on par with it...

Really? I think it's quite a valid point since most smartphones coming out in the near future will have 720P displays. Why can't a next-gen mobile console have the same? How long did the PSP last? 4, 5, 6 years? If sony expects the Vita to last that long, why did they give it a gimped screen?

Perhaps I do understand all too well.

Actually, I've played with it in stores already. The device itself is impressive, but I'm not sold on it for many reasons. And trust me, the screen is NOT one of them. The screen actually looks nice, but when you consider that "lesser" smartphones have a higher res screen already, it shows that Sony held back when they were developing the device. It's a 5 inch screen with a 960x540 resolution display. They could have easily bumped that to 720P. Hell, developers wouldn't have to develop games at that res either. Most Xbox360 and PS3 games aren't 720P either. The resolutions are scaled up to 720P and 1080P. That's not the point. The point is Sony held back on a device that doesn't need to be held back.

The specs on paper are fine, and everyone knows that dedicated consoles perform better than computer counterparts simply because they aren't burdened by background tasks and other things that hog memory and system performance. The problem lies in 3rd party support and sales numbers. In that regard, especially considering the tough market we are in, the PS Vita has a very VERY tough road ahead.

I know this comment is old, but it is really funny to me. 2500 dollars worth of bottles and cans. Presume you don't live in Michigan where each can is worth 5 cents.

How likely is a person able to collect 50,000 cans in a week?

at 250$ price tag people is already complaining.. and if Sony bump up to a 720p with minimal increase in "eye candy" but a bigger price tag... why would they do that?

Ever heard the saying "Go big or go home"? This would have been an excellent time to do that.

Also, the cost increase would have probably been something like $5-10 per unit (at most). That's nothing on a device that makes all of its money on games and DLC.

Smartphones from a year ago had resolutions as high or higher than that. Besides, watching 720P videos on a Vita would have been super sexy. wink.gif
