Perhaps I do understand all too well.
Actually, I've played with it in stores already. The device itself is impressive, but I'm not sold on it for many reasons. And trust me, the screen is NOT one of them. The screen actually looks nice, but when you consider that "lesser" smartphones have a higher res screen already, it shows that Sony held back when they were developing the device. It's a 5 inch screen with a 960x540 resolution display. They could have easily bumped that to 720P. Hell, developers wouldn't have to develop games at that res either. Most Xbox360 and PS3 games aren't 720P either. The resolutions are scaled up to 720P and 1080P. That's not the point. The point is Sony held back on a device that doesn't need to be held back.
The specs on paper are fine, and everyone knows that dedicated consoles perform better than computer counterparts simply because they aren't burdened by background tasks and other things that hog memory and system performance. The problem lies in 3rd party support and sales numbers. In that regard, especially considering the tough market we are in, the PS Vita has a very VERY tough road ahead.

Nintendo 3DS runs at 132.15 PPI (pixels per inch, 400x240) per screen (or 237 PPI, 2 screens vertically aligned)
Playstation Vita runs at 220 PPI. (960 x 544)

You are comparing apples to oranges (phones to handheld gaming systems).
They are entirely different things with different purposes, at 5" you will not notice a different between 1280x720 video and 960x544 video (downscaled).

Your argument is invalid.

Ok... stop the angry birds crap. It is an overused and over exaggerated excuse for what people believe gaming on smartphones is. It's old, and it's outdated. The program was cutting edge 2 years ago. To answer your question, those screens make text and images sharper, which is something I would think would have been high on a list of check boxes for the Vita. Apparently not.

And I didn't say watching movies. I said watching 720P videos... in other words, youtube and other free video sites. There is a difference. If you want a cinematic experience, I would hope you would be smart enough to not use an iPad either. The screens on both the iPad and iPad 2 are 1024x768. TV's from 10 years ago were higher res than that.

Your argument is invalid.

The handheld console is bigger, and yet the screen on a smaller phone is higher res than that of said handheld console.

Also, the 3DS has 2 screens, one of which is 3D and the resolution is doubled to give that effect.

YOUR argument is invalid.

You stand corrected.

Nope. You're still comparing Phones to Handheld consoles, the 2 aren't related.
Not gonna reply after this, you're pretty much tied to your beliefs.

So you telling me that you need higher resolution to look at TEXT ? ***.... i stopped there....

Angry Bird is not outdated lol millions still play it on their "high -tech 720p) phone biggrin.gif and yet you still cant name a game that would look better on a phone compare to Vita games.

You talked about movies and with my galaxy nexus and my Vita here both are running the same movie, yet the color on my Vita out shine my Nexus yet its running less resolution then my Nexus.. i dont what your complain is ? oh yeah, beside no difference in picture quality between the 2 device, the only difference is the file on my Nexus is 348meg higher than my Vita, sound quallity are the same, picture wise the Vita win biggrin.gif

For someone who doesn't want a Vita, it's pretty hilarious to see you clinging to this thread. What ressurection said is absolutely correct. You are comparing a handheld console to your cellphone Why do you think your glorious smartphone has a larger resolution? It's becuase you won't do anything nearly as graphically intense or demanding on it. You will use it to check facebook. You'll probably call a few people, then, maybe you'll play a cheap 99c game. That's all your going to be doing on your phone with SUCH A HUGE RESOLUTION. Now tell me, why should I care about that when i'm playing console quality games in the palm of my hands?

It's getting harder and harder to look at this thread, because every page has some more of your silly nonsense. Either you're really bad at playing devils advocate or you actually believe in the garbage you're sprouting.

The Vita will definitely perform better than any smartphone today, but if you look at Infinity Blade 2 or Modern Combat 3 on iOS you'll see some pretty impressive graphics at that high resolution. The Vita would certainly outperform it two fold at least, but still -- we do have some impressive games so far. The iPad 3 will also have to deal with those games at 2048x1536 which is almost exactly six times the pixels on the Vita eek.gif

If the rez was bigger, the performance would decrease, and then there wouldnt be as much eye candy. The Vita is nearly perfect the way it is now, and the issues im having with mine are nitpicks and not something that would of ever stopped me from buying it.

And in a few months? Completely overshadow the graphics of the VITA? (several tablet upgrades in a year for the tablet industry). Games come out quickly too.

I just saw Modern Combat 3.. damn.. doesn't look too far from Unit 13 that doesn't even have PVP.

Either Sony's gonna have to imrpove VITA's "other functions" or give some discounts on their MMCS and games... It's likely to become the smallest niche in the market with the smallest user base. (Well as long as they really reach their sales projection then not bad)

We'll see. The fight is far from over!

IDK.. smartphones and dedicated gaming devices are comparable depending on your gaming habit, priorities and pocket's health. They're likely to fight for your attention, money and "mobility" (no bags, baggy pants, weird belt accessories, etc).

And yes.. Sony's new added target market are tablet and phone gamers.
