paying more for less. 5ghz stable at 1.38v or I'd be a little sad.

Meh, it's still silicone lottery. I think my 2500k did 5 around 1.43v which I suppose is kinda "golden" (give or take a 0.01).

Agree. There never was proof that 2700K is cherry picked. It all comes down to silicone lottery.

Now running on my new i5 2550k. I love having Win7 enterprise, I didn't have to reformat at all!

Gonna do some benches and testing tomorrow night so I'll be posting screen shots then. New to Intel so I gotta take some time to figure out the BIOS and all the little tweaks.

I haven't really overclocked and tweaked in a long time and I'd be happy to run my system through the gauntlet once I get my Corsair H80 this weekend. What programs should I throw at this CPU to get a good idea of it's capability and performance?

For stability testing I use the "ole faithful" Prime95 and I also run burn test too. I normally try to run each for about an eight to twelve hour run. If they pass that and your temps are in the good zone I would say it's pretty stable.
I use memtest86+ to test out my ram although this can be done while testing the cpu stability in Prime95 also.

As far as benchmarks go I'm pretty standard in the fact I really only run the futuremark tests like Vantage, 3dmark 11 and the likes. I also run performance test 64 as an offset to pcmark vantage.

I'm sure others will have a much better list of benches to run your build through as I'm pretty basic knowledge OC'er.

I would be really pleased to see what the processor can do as I just got one myself. I'd love to chime in on what seems to be a pricing discussion on the last page but I got mine for 60 bucks thanks to an Aunt in Atlanta that got me a gift cert for x-mas and didn't realise I don't have a microcenter with in 4 hours of where I live. >.< I'm not really interested in the IGpu either. My theory in my head is it should OC a bit better and @ slightly better temps due to the lack of the Igpu.

I went with the EVGA Z68 FTW board and 16 GB of G.skill 2133 ram. I can't wait to piece this badboy together.

Good luck with the OC and please post what you find out.

First 20 passes of Linx and then overnight prime95, ought to be stable if it passes both. For benchmarks, I'm with Ryanhabs.

yea I know. my 2500k can do 5ghz stable, but with 1.45v. I didn't bother to boot with any less, let alone run prime95. had no errors after 4 hours at 5ghz. if the lack of the igpu does nothing for the chip's headroom, then it's a sad day indeed.

It is the same with Phenom II X4 and X6. AMD has some X6 that couldn't pass QC, so AMD disabled 2 cores and rebranded them as X4. Which is why some X4 can be unlocked into X6.
Virtu is about Quick Sync, a hardware acceleration that beats CUDA and OpenCL when it comes to media encoding. Since you have 2550K, you cannot use Quick Sync.

^ QFT...... unfortunately for the op....

plus the z68 is almost equivalent to the p67 besides the fact of the virtu...thingy that no one uses, and the ssd caching which is only useful if you have a smalll ssd like
30gb > X
Small wonder.
