Just bought i5 2550k and Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3P - Page 7

Glad to see some posting results on this 2550K as I'm thinking serious about getting one.
I have a like new ASRock Extreme 6 just laying around I need something to go in.
Its been laying around since about a week after I got it because I found a good deal on a Asus P8P67 WS Rev. that I been running the above 2600K in. So I need a CPU or sell the board, tax time so I guess I'll just get a CPU of some sort to place in the Ext.6. rolleyes.gif I want something that can be overclock well and this looks like it could be it.

Keep those results coming. We want to see more! biggrin.gifthumb.gif

Nice overclocks guys!
My 2600K at 5.0Ghz : http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1720733
Took a good bit more vcore to get 5.4Ghz: http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1751813

Keep in mind that your i7 has HT on while the i5-2550k does not have HT. When I was OC with the i7 920. I could go a lot higher with HT off and it would also require less voltage with HT off so I bet you could get your voltage down lower if you turn your HT off to match his 2550k.

Have you tried to enable PPL overvoltage?

PS: sorry for the offtopic OP

Thread Starter
I'm kinda noob to overclocking Intel.

If anyone wants to gimmie some pointers on voltages to change, I'd be happy to post results later tonight.

Also, I'd like to run a 24/7 OC. Is there any fact sheets on the i5 about safe vcore voltage and other facts like PLL/BLCK and whatnot?
check out the sandy stable club lots of useful pointers and facts in there
Small wonder.

You should manually set the vcore to start with. 1.35v vcore or less is the max I would run for a 24/7 overclock.
If you want to try for max 24/7 OC I would start by manually setting the vcore at 1.30v and see how far that will let you OC stable.
Keeping in mind you will want to keep the temps in or below the 65c range for full load and 24/7 OC. Well these are my preference.
I only run my 2600K at 4.4Ghz for a 24/7 OC because I can keep the vcore just below 1.30v actually 1.295v with temps 60c or under
for my 24/7 clock under full load of folding@home 24/7..
