Also max temp right now with folding and prime95 is about 62c

yeah I was more or less testing for max stable. I backed mine down after I hit 5.5 @ 1.51v. I can go higher still but I want to watercool it before I push further.
I'm currently 100% stable through all popular stress tests (prime95, intel burntest, and so on) and fully stable while folding. I'm running @ 4.90Ghz (Bus: 102.1 x 48) @ 1.376v. My temps are 25 to 30c idle and 55 to 61c 100% load. The room has an average ambient temp of 72 to 75F. I think that is pretty damn good for a 24/7 and I'm quite happy with this chip even though the popular opinion of the 2550k is that it's a gimped 2500k.

hey, I figure this is first and foremost a gaming rig... I'm always going to have some sort of discrete GPU in it. I can't say that the 2500k needs any more volts to hit the same clocks as the 2550k. All I can say is I got a great chip @ and even better price. They can say what they will but I intel burn test stable @ 5.5 on air. I am more than pleased with it performance. granted the temps were out of control so I stopped the test after 3 passes but it I'll go back to that after the water kit arrives. thumb.gif

One thing I have been reading is that they say "supposedly" your supposed to get better temps with the 2550k because of the disabled igpu, but again that has not been confirmed. However running 5.5 on air under 70c sounds like confirmation for me. smile.gif

well, I know people have been dubbing some chips as "golden" chip and I am guessing that there are also a few 2500K's that are capable of the same, but the case and ambient room temps play a big deal also. I have a HAF X with all case fans (7) running full out when I bench and while its been a mild winter here in SC I try to get room to to like 60F. So I'm sure all that helps. I wouldn't think the same temps would be possible with 80F room temp and fans running in silent mode.

afik..2550K is a 2500 with defective IGPU..as far as clocking..eh..silicon lottery

Here's the Intel Spec Sheet

Actually i heard they did away with the igpu because OC enthusiasts thought they could achieve higher overclocks without it.

It would be nice to think that Intel would create a chip for the OC enthusiasts but in reality it's probably because they were defective lol. I would like to see the silicon of a 2550k just to see if its lasered off or disabled.

great great GREAT overclock.
cant wait to see the results from water. i lived in NC for a year. yeah it gets pretty damned hot in the summer. whatcha gunna then ? run ac 24/7 and hope for a sub $300 elec bill ? i hate to see you clock downwhen that chip runs so sweet
