Testing Undervolt TEC Air cooled

Thread Starter
I had some time off today so I decided to play with my 226w TEC that I got long time ago but haven't had a chance to use it. I dont want to run to the stores to get all the stuffs for condensation protection, plus I planned to cool the hot side with one of my Air cooled HS. So I thought it'll be a good idea to undervolt the TEC & I decided to run it on the 5V instead of the 12V on my PSU.Took my son's rig and rip it apart for the test, here's my setup:

Mobo: Abit SG-80
Ram : 2Gb PC3200 3-3-3-8
CPU: P4 506 2.66Ghz clock to 3.2Ghz (160x20)
Vcore: 1.34 idle - 1.31 Loaded
PSU: 2 separate crappy PSU, 1 for the rig 1 for the TEC
Air HS: dont know what it is, took it from a sony VAIO

Temps w/o TEC: 35 idle - 59 Load
Temps with TEC on (only 5V): 19 idle - 50 load
Temps with TEC off: 55 idle - unknow load (scared to try)

will update some more pics later on. After all I'm happy with the result, just wonder if it'll have the same result with my 920.

Pretty snazzy. How do you protect your pc from condensation?

I might want to get into this =)

The kind of condensation youll see depends on the operating conditions, which can vary greatly and is based on many factors. It generally depends on the temperature and humidity of the operating environment. Case-in-point, its kinda random. Intresting results none-the-less.

well I didnt insulate very good, just put some dieletric grease in the socket and a piece of neoprene around it.I'll go to my dad and grab his old 500w PSU tomorrow and try it with the TEC. I think it'll give me better temp.

It is good to see you actually try this. Few here have been thinking about it but never got around to doing it as most are installed in water blocks and in use. I am unsure if the 226 watter module could cope with the heat load of your rig even with alternate cooling such as water.

Have you got a picture of your set-up please

update with more pics, had to resize them

The thing is I dont want to deal with the condensation. All I want is to keep my load temp around 40 - 50 C and I'll be happy.

thanks

been running nonstop for the last few days. No problem yet. I'm going to try this setup on my D 920 this weekend. Below are pic of Prime 95 pass over 38 hours. Been idle for bout 18 hours & havn't see any condensation yet. If my D 920 will work out like this .. i'm a happy camper. Plan to cool the hot side of the TEC with the BT this time, wait for my result.

Note: My room temp is about 27.5 C

Those are nifty idle temps...but I can get better load temps with a BT and a Silverstone. Is it really worth the power consumption for that? See if you can get the pelt cooler. Try and keep the load temps under 40°C. If you can do that, then the ends justify the means.

EDIT: It's still a cool project, don't get me wrong!
