Geez 0.4gpm.. thought it was 1.5gpm too, you'll definitely need another pump.. You're running a RP452x2 res so Laing D5 pump right. Should've gone with the DDC version since you need more head pressure because of all the blocks you're running, might not see a big change if you added another D5 since you need more head pressure than flow rate don't know for sure on what'd change if you added a second D5 though. Martin's spreadsheets shoudl be a good guestimate though.

well I just disconnected my other rads (now it goes res - pump - 360 rad - chipset - cpu - mosfit - res) and Im getting 2.1 to 2.4 LPM

Nice How's the temps looking with one rad? You decide on going 2 loops ? Either way you'd need another pump Lol wink.gif

Not sure if posted, you would need identical pumps and to check the curves, but you could run the pumps in series to increase the flow, parallel = static, series = flow

-should really read the whole thread tongue.gif

Not true. There is no reason why the pumps need to be the same type or impeller speed. The only limitation is that the overall flow rate does not exceed the rated specs of either pump, something that in reality would only really happen in a very low restriction loop where you wouldn't need two pumps anyway.

Also a concern would be the maximum pressure; add the head pressure of all the pumps, if it exceeds the pressure integrity rating (not the head pressure) of any of the pump casings there is a potential to burst one of your pumps. Again this is very unlikely.

Actually it is the other way round:
  • Pumps in parallel will have a higher maximum flow rate with no restriction
  • Pumps in series will have a higher maximum head pressure with complete restriction

The reason why we run series and not parallel is because we don't have a no restriction, or total restriction, scenario in our loops. You need to look at a PQ curve to understand it, but essentially the series configuration bumps the curve up whereas parallel shifts it right. Due to the area in which we opperate it is more beneficial to have the curve shifted up; we get more flow rate at higher pressure drops than in parallel.

seriesparallelconclusion2.png?w=614

Notice that whilst the series curve is tailing off very quickly, and the parallel one will stay higher for longer, this happens outside of the area in which we are opperating, therefore is of no use to us.

Another thing to consider is what happens when the pumps fail. In parallel a lot of the flow will recirculate through the stopped pump as it presents very lower restriction. In series you drop down to the power of one pump less a bit for the slight restriction of the stopped pump. Have a good read of Martin's Parallel vs Series Pump Test for more info.

Love the help guys!
This is the first build I've ran into an issue of flow and being a high number of components in the loop.
I'm thinking 2 loops at this point as for I got the room, sucks though my controller unit only takes in signal from one pump and one flow meter frown.gif. I got an extra res tube style and I got soooo many fittings that are extra.

are you saying you're getting 1.5 lpm? Thats what, 90 lph? isnt that pump rated at 1200 lph/ 17 lpm? That seems like an ENORMOUS drop in flow...but you're still getting good temp.

Is the flow meter calibrated?
