What is comparable to the TRUE now? - Page 2

yeah that scythe mine 2 at 30 is a steal i think, won't find a better or even comparable price like that for a dual tower anywhere else. It's one of the options i'm considering.

If you're gonna go with an H100, might as well skip over it and get a RASA kit.

Just because you called it out... I do have a Xigmatek DK on a Q6600 rig. It gets *very* toasty on small ffts (~80C an hour in) in prime 95. 3.8 Ghz at 1.47v.

I got it for sale at newegg for $20 and came w/a 5 in 1 card reader, less than a Hyper 212 was going for, as I recall. It was better than the 3-4 year old loose push pin Artic Cooler 7 it replaced, but I'd bet there are better. Maybe not for the money... but better. At the time I bought it, I read a review which placed it ahead of the Hyper 212. I felt, at that price, even if it wasn't great, it'd be good... and I haven't been disappointed. It's 120mm (?) fan is WAAAY quieter even at full speed than the AC7s 92mm one.

Can't remember where the review was... because it was an all-enclusive review of all air coolers from 1-2 years ago. Good stuff. If you hunt around for it, you'll find it. Again... the Xigmatek *wasn't* the best... but the best bang for the buck at the time. My CPU is lapped from when I had the AC7. The DK isn't a mirror finish by any means, but the direct heatpipe design does seem to work well... lapped or not.

I'm thinking of putting the Q6600 in my parents computer. They bought a 'new' LGA 775 computer w/a dual core at Office Depot for ~$400. If it's got a 1333 bus, the crap 45 nm dual core might get replaced by this old chip to give 'em 4 cores. It's 4 years old and I finally am feeling the want, though not need to upgrade. I spent 1-2 hours yesterday to see of there was anything different/more I could do and the old girls tapped out. I'd love to snag some sweet 4.5 Ghz computer to raise my minimum frames by half and, perhaps, run cooler and draw less juice than this old beast.

One thing I'll say for the 65nm C2Qs... they're like an old crap car from high school. They aren't much more that 'just enough' now-a-days... not flashy... the guys w/the new stuff look down on you for (scoff) having anything that doesn't have an ' i ' in the name somewhere... but you can't *kill* them.

I've tried. I couldn't do it. Just screwing around w/random suicide runs. It refuses to die or even noticably degrade through my abuse.
