[MPC] Apple Forces Pegatron to Drop Asus Ultrabook - Page 9

Aw, I was looking forward to an IB Zenbook as an alternate choice from the MBA. I guess I'll wait and see how well the Trinity 'ultrabooks' pan out.

If Intel and Samsung actually wanted to stop Apple they would just stop supplying them.
But they figure the amount they get from Apple is more then being able to sell there products to consumers

Although I am pretty bummed about not being able to get the Ultrabook though... frown.gif I was hoping to get it as a graduation gift (I'm done with college in mid March! tongue.gif)

Just because Intel did this 10 YEARS AGO doesn't make it ok for Apple to do so NOW.

Intel also had to pay over $1 Billion for those dealings, Apple on the other hand.... They're just getting away with it freely.
I agree. Just because Intel (or any other company, for that matter) has done it, doesn't make it okay for Apple to do it now. I don't think anyone on this forum (or anywhere else) will disagree with you on that one. thumb.gif I'm simply commenting on the fact that there are so many people who act as if this is something that only Apple has done. If it were any other company, OCNers would either take very little notice (if any) or make comments on how the company is Apple-like.

My point? All this (forum) hate does is to lead people to start saying angry things to each other, like the posters a few pages back who don't even realize they've gone from discussing the article/news to nitpicking each other on vocabulary, and have completely forgotten about the topic at hand: Apple plays dirty. If you don't like them, don't support them! wink.gif 'Nuff said.

The only way to keep competition up and force companies to innovate is take each other's designs and push their limits. So what if the Zenbook looks like the MBA, rather than Apple cry about it, why not innovate the design further? To me it just seems lazy in the long run.

if apple really acted as you are implying they would have the same design as their original, never change it, and just shut down the market around them.

instead they come out with a new version of their products annually, sometimes with an internal spec bump and sometimes with a full redesign.

and the only way to keep competition is to force companies to innovate their own designs, not steal and make cheap knockoffs. apple was broke not to long ago and facing a market dominated by microsoft and manufacturers fighting and driving prices down. so did they steal everyone's idea and release it for cheaper, trying to undercut other companies via price? no they created niche markets.

apple wasn't the first to put out a touch screen phone, tablet, or self contained computer, but they created a need for these things. everyone who says "x product is better than x apple equivilant" is subconsciously admitting that there's even a desire to own one of those products that hardly existed before apple took a crack at it.

Yes, there are laws against this, but when a lot of Government parties sit on the Apple's board of directors, how do you think they get granted ludicrous patents, and are able to get away with this type of behavior?

As much as I disliked Jobs and feel he wasn't all that amazing, that's a bit unfair and untrue. Jobs definitely donated a lot of money to charities. He just didn't agree to give away over half of his fortune like Bill Gates and several other wealthy men. Jobs wasn't a philanthropist. You can't judge someone by how much of their fortune they give away. The man donated millions of dollars; I think that's more than what the entire middle class and lower class combined donate. I once did make the mistake of saying he "donated very little," I admit to that. You can't demand someone who is wealthy to give away their entire fortune that they've worked hard for. Regardless of your belief that you would have given much more, it was his money, and he was paying himself a $1 salary for a year or two if I recall correctly.

Jobs was a jealous man. He also wants to see others burn to the ground because he is upset that they made something better then him or he stole it second.

Apple - Threatens Pegatron that if they don't stop manufacturing the Ultrabook, they'll cut their iOS contract. (Shouldn't that violate their contract terms to begin with?)
Intel - Takes an impact because the Ultrabook won't be produced anymore, and threatens Apple that if they don't allow ASUS to fairly compete and sell the Ultrabook, Intel will stop producing chips for Apple.

I'd love it.

They're scared of the Zenbook and they should be . It's way nicer than the Macbook Air....

This is exactly what went through my head when I saw this news. I was like "ahhh, now I see what they meant when they said they are about to disrupt the notebook space!". tongue.gif

Add to that the fact that they have millions of blind Apple sheep that have no clue about their practices. Thank you corporate America, where money will get you out of anything. The only way I see Apple going down is if the courts rule in favor of other patent holders, where Apple is forced to cease production and sales of nearly every device. I don't see it happening. Apple will be around for just as long as Microsoft and Google; neither are going anywhere.
Absolutely agree with this. You will see some major issues and stifling innovation as long as Apple is the forerunner because their corporate policies are completely anti-competitive and anti-innovation. They believe in evolution of their own products only, and that's it. I personally never supported Apple and never saw them as the "underdog" that everyone makes them out to be (still an image that follows them to this day in the eyes of a large consumer base). They are a corporation that is amazing at manufacturing need and selling perception. Even in their hardest times they still had a loyal following much unlike anything else seen with any other brand. Unfortunately for everyone the system rewards this and hence we find ourselves in more and more of these types of predicaments.

Apple is here to stay, and others will have to learn how to deal with them in a much more effective way than they are today if they have any hope of competing with them in the marketplace.
