I use 2 because my 3rd monitor doesn't fit properly on my desk, and I have to connect it to my laptop because I don't have a second GPU to run it.

With programming its really the more the merrier. If I could have every source file open on the screen at the same time I'd be one happy (and efficient) coder. The only limiting factors are how many monitors you can fit into your workspace and how many you can actually hook up to your PC.

I have 3 monitors, of which only 2 are hooked up due to one of them being very old and a port that I use being linked to that(1600x900 and 1280x1024) When I program either have 2 source files open or documentation open, you really can't go wrong with more monitors for the multitasking value they give you. say....anyone know of a deal on monitors? tongue.gif

Not so much coding, more DB query, logs and scripting. But I use three, two on a work desktop PC and one hooked up to my work laptop. So actually, 4 in total!

I usually have some code, spreadsheets, SQuirrel, putty and Linux VM open across them. They are all 23" monitors.

I use three monitors while programming. One usually has the project/homework assignment and Java Doc(if programming in java), middle one has my IDE running and the third one usually has source files open on it. Three 23" for the Win!!

I use a single 18.5" monitor, I'd love to get a second one though. I am a hobby programmer and I am working on a graphics engine right now, and I must say that looking for the correct file through 15 open Visual Studio tabs is just annoying.

I also use 2 (both 24") because I can't fit a 3rd one on my desk, but a 3rd one could really come in handy.

was using 2x21.5" but now i have a 30" with a 21.5" in portrait mode. i have to say the 30" with a resolution of 2560x1600 is amazing. so much screen real estate. I program in C mostly and use vim. havn't tried an IDE on it but I'm sure it would be amazing since you could pop out all your tool bars and have multiple sources open at the same time.
