Useful Sites:
XDA
RootzWiki
Droid-Life (mostly for news, but also has a nifty Nexus guide to the right of the site that shows you how to root, unlock, and do much more to your Galaxy Nexus
Galaxy Nexus "Ultimate Guide" - Exceptionally thorough guide for modifying this phone, very well made.

Cool ICS replacement apps:

ICS Browser+ or Quick ICS Browser - Very good browser enhancements, they expanded the quick controls so full screen browsing is no longer a hassle! Plus it is hardware accelerated and uses Chrome sync for your bookmarks. Plus it has flash support...both are better than Chrome for Android IMO

Camera ICS - Pretty good replacement camera app. Not a ton of features yet, but a big one is being able to mute the shutter sound with a toggle in the options. Oh, and you can increase the image/video bitrate. Some have noticeable pretty image quality with the increased bitrate (beware of the file sizes though).

Nova Launcher - Freaking awesome launcher, better than Go, ADW, or anything I've ever tried. Hardware accelerated like the stock launcher. Good variety transitions, able to use ADW icon packs, adjust grid/margin size, add additional home screen, customizable dock, AND BEST OF ALL: back/restore

Other goodies

Google Wallet (LTE) - Instructions to install the Google Wallet app. For exceptionally sinister reasons, Verizon has disallowed LTE users from utilizing this wallet app while they work with AT&T and T-Mobile to produce their own. Unfortunately due to a couple security flaws, Google has restricted activating the Google prepaid card. Hopefully it'll come back up, and when it does, you get $10 free for signing up.

LTE Toggle - Very useful if you live in a limited 4G area...or if you're doing light tasks and want better battery.

Swype - Why is this still in beta? It's been almost 2 years. Sigh...well you have to sign up and they'll email you a link to download.

Volume+ - DSP Manager and volume booster. Extremely useful for this phone, since it seems we got gypped when it comes to the speakerphone. Fortunately this will boost the volume (I recommend cranking it up to about +10). I'm not sure if the DSP features are fully functional in ICS, but it's still worth the buy IMO.

Light Flow - Neat app for your notification light. Very customizable. I've heard some people having battery drain issues, so keep an eye out.

I'm actually highly interested in this. I got the promotion for 4GB of Data a month and I'm eager to use it. I use wifi on my campus a lot of the time, so I'd shell out a pretty penny for it.

Also, I guess add me

.

I have a Verizon/LTE Nexus. Didn't want to flash/root mine yet, but the 4.0.2 bugs that are supposedly fixed in 4.0.4 are starting to irk the crap out of me.

Also, I'm having trouble unlocking the bootloader. Did you guys have any problems? I can fastboot the phone and I double-checked that I installed the SDK properly, but when I do the actual 'fastboot oem unlock' command, it says waiting for device, and then nothing happens.

EDIT: Figured it out, but I'm guessing to flash to 4.0.4 I actually do need to root my phone. A lot of these guides are nowhere near straightforward.

It was pretty straightforward for me...but I've been around Android phones since the OG Droid. What part are you having trouble with? But yeah...you definitely need to root to install a rom

Also I put some apps I think every Gnex user should not be without.

Yeah, I've never rooted an Android phone before, and from what I was reading, to flash the official leaked 4.0.4 update, you didn't need a root. I had plans to root the phone, just not yet. The bootloader is unlocked now, however.

I have a GSM Nexus.

Running AOKP M4 and Franco.M1

With this combination, some UV and battery saving settings, I can go 3-4 days without charging

I'm so in tomorrow...after I return this iPhone 4S that's screen...while AMAZING...is unreadable due to its size. I don't know what I was thinking coming from the Thunderbolt. I probably browse 2/3rd of the time on that phone and it's simply not comfortable on this itty bitty screen. :/

In! BTW how are your guys' battery life on this phone?

#22 ·
With super heavy usage on 4G, I'd say around 6-8 hours, but on an average day, I don't require 4G, so I turn it off and get a good 14-16 hours. I also have the extended battery on mine as well.
