Here is a brief read on wikipedia which will give you a general idea!

i'd get the 2600K.. 2700K is a sham..they factory clock it 1 notch higher..OOOoOo..now it's more expensive kookoo.gif
as for 2700Ks being binned...i think not..read reviews of a few disappointed people

If you do not heavily video edit, render 3D models, or participate in distributed computing projects like Folding@Home, then you probably do not need a quad-core CPU with Hyperthreading like a 2600k.

If you have money to spare and you do not care, you can get the 2600k instead of the 2500k.
As far as OCing a 2600k... I have mine running 4.8 24/7 with HT ENABLED no problems...(its under water of course) I would never spend the extra money on the 2700k.... if you dont need to power to do video editing or such get a 2500k... either one I dont think you will be disappointed... Good luck w/ your decision thumb.gif

1. The difference between a i5 2500k and an i5 2550k, is that the 2550k does not have integrated graphics.

2. Prove to me that they are binned higher. They surely dont always OC better. Read reviews, mate

Some screenshots I made few days ago, playing with 2700K and Noctua, casual benching, nothing serious, hope it helps tongue.gif

Well i own a 2700k as it cost me just less than $20 different to my other halfs 2600k and i'm not a dissapoited user.! my 2700k is a far superior overclocker than the missis's 2600k i'm 300mhz higher on my overclock with 0.02 less voltage core.

I have hit the wall with both the chips, ok slightly different motherboards in the two machines, the missis's machine runs out of steam around 4.6-4.7 on 1.41 ish vcore i could go higher but she is on air cooling tongue.gif
. my 2700k hits 4.7 on 1.38-39- I have had 5.0ghz on the 2700 but did'nt have the time or the intrest to stabalize it much.
ok the overclock has not been primed for 600million hours but i use 3DS max 2012, mudbox and softimage so a 24hour render with iray qualifies as stable i would have thought.

As for th 2700k being a sham believe what you will rolleyes.gif but those in the know (industry proffesionals) seem to disagree with that statement . but as i tell most of my colleuges take what you read on this site with a pinch of salt because fanboyism and butthurt rule the roost here and influence 90% of the posts even before common sense, that said-

Choose what you want to buy - who's gonna tell you its wrong the interwebzzz.......yeah..... right......rolleyes.gif
because honestly once its installed and your overclocking it are you really gonna care.

regards

Yes, you absolutely need it. wink.gif

No, not really, it depends on how much $40 means to you. If the rumors of higher-binned chips going to 2700k's over 2600k's is true, and the ability to hit the CPU's max overclock is important, then I don't see a reason not to.

That being said, I am curious if 2600k's don't hit 95% of the OC that 2700k's do.
