[ubergizmo] VLC 2.0 arriving this week

Thread Starter
Did a search, couldn't find anything, so I thought I'd post it.
Quote:
Users of the VLC video player should be pretty excited at this piece of news – a new version of the app is rolling out this week and it looks like it’s going to be a major update

Source.

The screenshot is showing it playing the (in)famous Apple ad with the stoned/dumb chick! That alone makes it awesome. thumb.gif
post #3 of 85
maybe it can finally play large .mkv files without a crap load of codecs
post #4 of 85
It's not as good as the SVN build I was using up until now. Oh well, it's not as if I rely on VLC to do a good job.

If it's the black one, that looks quite slick. But aren't all black ones... ph34r-smiley.gif

Woot! 64-bit support and an actual UI (the current basic control system doesn't really count)..

Does the earlier version have the libbluray library in it too? I know it is a baby step and they will need to get around the licensing to play commercial Blue Rays...but still it is a start. I don't know why the PC platform cannot get a decent Blue Ray player. The best I've found is PowerDVD 11 and it still isn't that great. As long as I have an hour or so before we start watching I will rip the disk to a .m2ts file and play it in VLC.
