Standard Lens for APS-C

Ok so I have a 7D.

What would you choose for a standard lens taking into consideration all specs and price.

here are the few I was looking at:
Code:
Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM $1225-1329
Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM $439-489
Canon EF 28mm f/2.8 $239-259
Canon EF 35mm f/2.0 $309-400

Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM $484-509
Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X 116 Pro DX for Canon $647-699

Like I seriously doubt the 35mm L lense is worth 1.2k to me....
And a standard lens would be closer to 28 or 30 mm anyways.

Comments? Opinions?

If you want a prime, Sigma 30. Probably the best bang for the buck lens on your list.

The 35L is a great lens, but if you're a casual shooter (not a hobbyist, I know there's a difference), then it's probably not worth the price, as you indicate.

What do you currently have? I'm somewhat surprised not to see the Sigma 17-50 on there, that's a great lens, fixed 2.8 aperture and (at least recently) on sale at B&H for $575. If you want a zoom to cover the wide end of the spectrum, I'd lean more towards that.

Well I have the 18-135 f3.5-5.6 right now.
kit lens.... has some terrible zoom creep, chromatic aberration is bad cause of zoom barrel being loose

I had the 50 f1.8 but sold it to a friend for her to do a wedding in a pinch that she didn't realize was going to be inside and dark....

So I want something that will be fast; As I shoot plays and stage stuff occasionally and need something that can freeze motion with terrible lighting (no flash).

I figured I could get a better/faster lens with a prime instead of a zoom (looking to spend around 500$). But I don't need it right away. Would prices get better the longer I wait, or would buying now be better?

Pretty much, see my previous recommendation. Sigma 30 if you dont need the zoom, if you want a fast zoom, Sigma 17-50.

Dont bother waiting for price reductions, you cant shoot with gear you dont have. It is worth it to check out a couple of the major sites to make sure they're not having sales, etc, but if all the prices are mostly uniform just pick the retailer of your choice. Popular new retailers are B&H Photo and Adorama. Abes of Maine sometimes has decent deals on Sigma stuff (try using coupon code Loyalty15 depending on how much you're buying - hell, Google "Abes of Maine" AND "coupon code") but there are lots of reports of them being a bit slow on delivery and a bit high pressure with a follow-up call trying to sell you more stuff. I've only experienced somewhat slow 'rush' delivery. B&H and Adorama shipping via UPS 3 Day should have stuff to you the next day and sometimes it's free.
