Please rate my cheap dedi F@H rig?

Thoughts please about this dedicated f@h rig? Its only £450, and for the specs its pretty darn good in my opinion. What are your thoughts folks please, I dont need monitor as this would just run alongside my current rig so I could swap the screens to check progress etc.

Only thing im weary of is the micro atx boards, whats the difference apart from obvious size and lack of pcie slots etc. Anything else I need to be aware of? Also how do I go about using the integrated graphics gpu with the 2550k? Do only certain motherboards support it?

thanks!

You will need a Z68 motherboard for using the integrated gpu. What are you going to use to keep that thing cool?

Edit: Updated pic above, I put a gigabyte Z68 board in and I would probably go with a prolimatech megahaem if it fits....or if not I would maybe consider going caseless. Temps would be better then too.

Stock i5 cooler isn't that good and if you wanna keep it running 24/7 id get one of the cooler master 212+ their like 35 Canadian and if you don't want the Z68 board get a video card. Or if you have a old one that would work.

Looks like a solid build to me. I would save the money for the case and use it towards a 2600k or 2133mhz memory if its not crazy expensive. Overall thumb.gif

If this is going to run FAH only you won't need the SSD. Either use an old HDD or look into putting linux on a usb drive and running it that way.

Im not sure the 2550K will get you much over the 2500K unless you going to run it at stock clocks.

p67 does not support the onboard video of the 2550K. I dont remember if H67 or H61 does but Z68 will.

Are you going to OC? I don't see any aftermarket cooling.

Take a look at the Corsair 430W PSU, good reviews as a solid PSU and usually the cheapest on Newegg in that range. Not sure in the UK though.

in fact...ill swap that corsair XMS memory out and buy some Samsung MV-3V4G3D/US. I hear those bad boys can get up to 2400mhz at CL9! They only cost £40 too

The new list has the prolimatech megahalem included.

I would be overclocing yeah, id be going for 5ghz+ if possible depending on the chip. I went for the 2500k simply on the off chance that it will overclock better than normal 2500k, its only extra £10 or so.

How big a USb stick would i need for linux?

You need less than 4gb for Linux.
