Internet drops multiple times EVERY DAY... - Page 2

Okay, is it your internet or your browser? I have a similar issue where my browsers (yes it happens regardless of which I use) will drop connection. Sometimes it happens multiple times in one session, sometimes I won't notice it for a couple of days. Fact of the matter is, I can play online games nonstop and I NEVER lose connection. I've actually been connected to a game, alt-tabbed to my browser, lost connection on my browser, alt tabbed into my game, and I was still connected. I'm still trying to figure this one out. It doesn't seem to happen to any computers on my network that are windows XP, but win vista or 7 busts from time to time. Just wondering if we are having the same issues.

NOT TRYING TO HIJACK, so if I'm having a different problem, please don't blow up the OPs thread. Feel free to send me a PM, i'm always down for assistance.

My internet completely drops for all computers/devices on my network. That is a strange problem you're having. I may try upgrading to the Asus Dark Knight, seems like a sick router.

not really a return path reading, but there is up down and snr ratio.

generally you want to stay within:

Downstream SNR 30 to 50
Downstream Power -15 to +15
Upstream SNR 30+
Upstream Power lower than 32 to 50

if docsis 3 with multi chanel bonding you want -5 to +5 on up/down power

1) Have you tried a new router?
2) Do you have any P2P software like Bittorrent running in the background? That could overwhelm your network and cause it to crash.

This is what I'm getting as of now for my modem readings. My network is currently up and functional, my last problem was about two days ago.

My router is a DIR-655 and I have not tried a newer router than that. I'm thinking of getting a new one, though.

I should also mention that I'm paying for a 30mb/s connection through Cablevision and my latest speedtest was 13 down.

looks good, i was having issues in a service area once, ended up being the service provider equipment int he area, was very old, i was getting modem/phone outages once a week for 15 minutes or more at a time, drove me nuts lol

here are some things you can try to narrow it down.

when outage occurs, note time of day and weather. rainy? windy? etc.

immediately check the status page of the modem and modem lights.
if you cannot access the status page, try access to your router page.
if that fails, bypass the router and see if you can access the modem.
if no access to modem then you got your culprit and can try a few things like reboot modem and see if you can access it and have service.

got to be quick sometimes, and all it takes is a blip in the signal to set the modem offline to rescan.

now if your internet cuts out and you can access the router, but fail to ping 192.168.100.1(modem) then you have a modem issue.
you may want to see if you can ping/get access to modem with the router in place, sometimes you'll need to set the routers WAN ip to 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.1.1 for example as it may be 192.168.100.1, and set subnet mask to 255.255.255 if its not already.

use cmd to ping

when my service goes down i always try to ping the router, then modem and i'll know whats up immediately
hope all this info helps pinpoint your problems, it could be something as easy as the router not accepting the dhcp response to something wrong on the service providers side.
