Hi Duke,

One last thing. In the link I posted, there is also a link to the download of their "beta" test program (6.5). I think if someone goes this route, they should just let the rig run. No gaming and using the computer. Seems the GPU code is pretty sensitive. ATI has also offered to help Stanford with the code from articles I've read on the web.
Might be expensive for just a folding rig, but worth it to Stanford.

I hope this helped, :-)

Yup. Folding involves very heavy FPU work. What are GPU's best at? You guessed it

Hi thiru,

I never thought of the points being "weighted" different. That's an excellent point for those wanting the try this approach. I don't fold for the points, per se, but I do like reaching milestones and charting my progress. I guess that's human nature...

Thanks for the post, :-)

Actually it has to do with the fact that the X1900XT has 48 pixel shaders

EDIT: 440 points per day !

Quote:
We will continue with this method of calibrating points by adding an ATI X1900XT GPU to the new benchmark machine (otherwise, without a GPU, we could not benchmark GPU WU's on the benchmark machine!). Since Core_10 GPU WU's cannot be processed on the CPU alone, we must assign a new set of points for GPU WUs, and we are setting that to 440 points/day to reflect the added resources that GPU donors give to FAH.

Hi jeppe,

I think that's right. Only ATI cards and right now the X1900 series. The X1800 series might work as well.

I hope this helped, :-)

from Folding@Home ATI GPU FAQ
Hi thiru,

Thanks for the info! 440 points per day. That would be 3,080 per week and about 12,320 per month. Wow!!

I've never been a person to be on the "beta programs" list, myself. I'll let others with the time, energy and patience work out the bugs. There are a lot of much smarter people than me, to figure those things out. Besides - "A man has got to know his limitations"!

BTW - It looks like some other special programs will be need to run on the computer in order for the GPU folding to work properly.

If the GPU program gets lined out and working, I'll get a new M/B and X1900 to fold for team 37726...
It would only be a folding rig though, no other uses intended. My wife will have a cow or maybe my head!

Thanks again, :-)

X1800 series support will be added in a month, if all goes well. But don't expect much, as it has 1/2 to 1/3 of the performance of an X1900...

Next should be X1650.

*** 440 points a day? My C2D do 1200 points a day. Is this a mistake?

Between 400 to 500 points a day so far, they had to make work units just for the GPU folding, 12,000 points is pretty good but not as good as the conroes are doing but better than any of the other cpus. my best AMD is my FX and it only dose 10,000 per month.

Actually it would be cheaper to add the GPU's than to make up new rigs.
