The $375 FW900 from Accurate IT

Thread Starter
I'm thinking of buying the FW900 from http://www.accurateit.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=2&page=shop.product_details&flypage=vmj_naru.tpl&product_id=1811&category_id=1&vmcchk=1&Itemid=2 and I'm wondering how much of a risk am I taking buying from there, in terms of quality and also long term use. I don't want to buy a monitor that could stop potentially stop working in a month or two. I'm not sure if I should go with a 120Hz LCD instead.

Can you desk support 100 lbs of CRT goodness?

If thats including shipping the its a decent deal. Its not really economically smart to buy and ship an fw900. They can be had locally for under $100 if you check cl for long enough they will eventually come up.

I had one for the better part of two years, and yes it was great, but as youra6 mentioned, they weigh 110lbs and are two feet deep. I personally sold mine based solely on the fact that I dont want to have to move it around anymore and switched it out for a lower end tn panel, and am more than pleased.

I personally feel, as a previous owner of one, they are way way way over hyped, esp for gaming. I preferred my lacie electron blue 4's by a long shot, but all of that is opinion.

thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif my vote is to spend that money on a mid range ips, or 120hz monitor

Thanks for the input . I'm fine with the size of the monitor, and my desk will be able to support the weight.

As someone who has used just about every high-end display you can possibly get, this post made me lol. Either you are trolling, you had a very bad calibrated/malfunctioning/warn out FW900, didn't set it up properly or you are blind. Maybe some combination of the above.

On [H] the the FW900 has a dedicated 8,000 post thread with almost 2 million views. That is strange for something that supposedly get's "beat" by a low-end TN panel. rolleyes.gif

What Vega said ^^^^^

Also, I bought two FW900s from accurateIT in the last couple of weeks.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v725/l88bastard/AlphaDesk.jpg

I am happy with both of them, but they are "b" grade. The first one has a couple of scratches on the screen, but they are pretty much superficial and dont bother my gaming at all and the second one had zero scratches on its screen after I removed its anti-glare coat..

As you can see in my picture, I also have three samsung 120hz S27a750 LCDs in portrait. The samsungs are as good as your goonna get with lcd 120hz panels and the FW900 BLOWS THEM AWAY.

Get the FW900 thumb.gif
Oh and I got mine for $325 so they might give you a discount if you call.

Maybe you just have taken my post and went ahead and assumed the worst. Telling someone that there are 8k+ post in a thread specified for anything tells us nothing more than there are 8k+ post in a thread for that specified item. It does not indicate that the monitor is great, bad, good, or anything else, just that it gets plenty of attention. Now, whether or not it is any of those things, is still up for debate, and on top of that, it is still a matter of opinion.

The one I had may very well have been on its way out, therefore I gave my opinion on the monitor I had, which oozyyy had asked for. And then gave my opinion on what he should do. No where did I say, or imply that a low end anything "beats" the fw900, just that I switched sold mine based solely on the fact that I dont want to have to move it around anymore

Either you are trolling, tired or worn out due to a long day, or are blind. Maybe some combination of the above.
But to take things I have said and misconstrue them for things I have not said, and then add nothing more to the question op originally had seems a little silly. Why not share some of your knowledge instead of throwing around insults.

You said you switched out the FW900 with a "low-end TN" panel and are more than pleased. That would infer that you think the TN panel is better. Don't get so defensive.

You said the FW900 was "way way way over-hyped", especially for gaming. I am just curious when it comes to gaming how your other screens compare and are better? Obviously if the FW900 is "way way way over-hyped" there are displays out there that are "way way way better". I'd be interested to know how so. We are talking the display image. Everyone knows that CRT's are heavy and deep, but that has nothing to do with the image.

Where are you moving your displays all the time to? LAN parties? You make it sound like your a travelling salesman and you take your computer display everywhere you go. You put an FW900 on your desk and your done with it until you move homes. Surely that cannot happen that frequently?

My point is people exaggerate way too much these days. I mentioned the FW900 as having a large and dedicated thread to show that the FW900 has a large following because of positive and unique display qualities. I don't think thousands of people have posted in that thread for a monitor that was discontinued in 2004 to say it sucks. wink.gif

Fair enough.

No, the monitor I switched to is vastly inferior to the fw900 I had, I however do not have an issue with its performance either therefore I am happy with it. The monitor I switched to was the monitor in my sig.
Which I was not using to draw the conclusions I had. There is no way for me to further explain myself with out it seeming like I am back tracking, so I will leave it as it is. And the moving part, I've moved 4 times in the last two years, and am moving again around June as I am buying my first house. I didn't want to have to move the 4 monitors that I still had in storage again, so I sold them.
