You tell me...

Thread Starter
So, I want to change my GPU. I mainly use this PC for Media(BluRay etc) and sometimes BF3. I want a stable 60fps. I don't care what the visual settings are, the game is visually stimulating even on low. I play for the game, not the visuals. That being said, I would rather be playing with medium to high settings, simply for the graphics at long distance. With my current setup, there are times when the frames drop into the low 40s. Budget $300. Nvidia/ATi, don't care. Overclockability a plus. System in sig is current.

Thanks all...

If you can find one on sale, your best bet would be a GTX 570 or an HD 6970. Given the new release of the 7xxx series, you should see those prices coming down more now.

he wants to be able to play at a solid 60 fps not maxxed settings. I can achive a solid 60 fps with my 5770 in low. So anywhere bettween a 6850 and 6870 if you gonna play medium
post #4 of 22
so my question is why the change? I would think your 550ti would play it on low or medium pretty easily unless this is a different machine or card were talking about?

that being said, if your budget is 300 I would buy a 560ti with 2gigs of vram it will play bf3 like a champ, in fact it should hold 60 frames on high depending on your resolution

ok i've edited enough

If it's a question of FPS, I don't understand why he can't achieve that with his 550TI. For a $300 budget, the best card is an on-sale 570 or 6970. In my mind, you should always buy the best card you can afford. It will give you maximum future proofing and you'll kick yourself for not doing it later. Unless, of course, you already have an upgrade scheduled in a year or so's time.

i say a gtx 560 Ti. get an open box or something.

at 1080p you dont really need more power, or more vram.

My xfx 6850 gets a solid 76+ fps on custom low-medium settings, If I do all settings medium its in the 60-65 fps most of the time.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I will reiterate, I do not want to fall below 60fps. In flight, with explosions, etc, my fps falls into the low 40s. Especially when running Fraps.

Thanks...
