Dear Esther - Page 2

Totally worth it if you're the kind who wishes they could just unwind and explore away from society. At first I was frustrated with the lack of control (no jump, no sprint), but when I got to the cave...woooooow. Pay $10, support the developer who had the guts to try something beautifully different.

Agreed, bought it last night, play for 30 mins, now I can't stop thinking about it at work. Can't wait to get home and play.

Dear Esther is completely story driven. You just walk and listen to the story and view your surroundings.

Could be interesting yet could be suicidal as well.

Finished this last night. Monetary wise, if you compare it to a 2 hour movie, it is about equal in value in terms of time vs money. Personally, I think the price was worth it.

For those that haven't played it, just one tip that will hopefully make it more enjoyable. Surrender yourself to the controls (or lack of them) from the get-go.
No jump, no sprint, just take a stroll and enjoy the ride. If after getting to the caves, you still can't come to terms with this, then this isn't the experience for you. It'd be the equivalent to going to a bad movie in my mind, suck it up and move on.

I'll probably play this through once more, because I didn't really give myself a chance to understand the story. I'm more of a visual learner, and being distracted by the scenery, I wasn't able to really wrap my mind around the story (this time I will pause to read the subtitles). I know there are some randomized audio cues, so that will be somewhat interesting to hear as well, but mainly I just want to try to really understand the story that the designer/author has come up with.

From a technical standpoint, I also really like the way they decided to do the ending.

One last note: If you have 3D Vision, the experience is even more amazing. There's a quirk with water reflections, but I didn't even notice it until I got to a certain area.

It's a nice tech demo.
Story isn't all that, but the environments look really nice.

Dear Esther will also look like crap if you compare it to Crysis like that, although the caverns should still impress.

I played the mod a couple years ago but I would hope they added some content to the original to charge for it. The graphics look better but if not any more parts to it, not sure if I would get it. It is very atmospheric and somber, great music, good actor doing the voice. But again, not sure if worth another play for $.
