H80 issue

Thread Starter
I have just upgraded to an overclocked 2700k and i'm using a corsair h80 to cool it. my old q9500 used to idle around 30-34 but this one is 35-40 most of the time is this ok or have i mounted the h80 wrong. i guess the overclock is probably whats getting it hotter but should i be happy with 35-40? its at 4.7 ghz
post #2 of 8
No that's fine. It's running at 4.7Ghz.

It's going to be hot running at those speeds and still staying under 40 is pretty damn good at 4.7.

Don't worry about it at all. If it gets stupidly hot when under load then it may be mounted incorrectly.

Yes, You should mostly be concerned with keeping your load temps down. The idle temps will vary from chip to chip because the heat sensing diodes aren't calibrated for lower temps but are more accurate at higher temps. One of my cores reports -4c from ambient when idle which as far as I know is impossible on ambient air wink.gif

Yep load temps > idle, what are your load temps?

As said you are running at 4.7GHz and I'll asume pushing your voltage substantially.
That's not to say you still couldn't do a few things (in general) to get temps more to your liking.

(Is your setup exhaust / intake? How's your case flow? Fan configuration / what fans used? Ambient temps?)

I have a 200mm coolermasters fan sucking in the front and the two h80's 120mm sucking from the back. I have not put it underload yet asit was overclocked when i bought it as a bundle, and still have not downloaded maya or anything that i can render with, i see ppl using prime 95 but i'm a total newbie to overclocking i dunno.

Ah ok, that's a huge question mark then - you've got settings/voltages now for that OC which we don't even know (could be way too much for all we know - or unstable).

You should head over to the Intel section too, and post up what your settings are in your BIOS - they might need some tweaking.
Could also clear CMOS and reset everything back to stock + OC yourself (would be good learning experience) smile.gif

Of course if you just want to see how she does under load, do a quick pass in P95 or something to see your temps under load.

65-70 under load is this ok for a 4.7 overclock
post #8 of 8
If you are using prime 95 or Intel Burn Test than those temps are very decent on a closed loop as those tests put out more heat than is realistic during normal use. If thats under gaming load than its not so good, because temps could go even higher with a higher CPU utilizing game. With Sandy Bridge you don't want to go higher than 75 or 80c, most people say.
