PSU for 24/7 Folding Build [Suggestions Needed]

Thread Starter
Putting together a 24/7 folding rig and I need suggestions for a reliable and cheap PSU

Components it needs to power:
Asus P8Z67 V-Pro Gen 3 (using on board video)
2600k or Ivy bridge equal
Western Digital 500gb HD
Hoping to get 1.5v RAM (2x4gb) but may end up with 1.65v
1 Pump (Still needs to be determined)
Several Fans for rad/case cooling

Was thinking I need a 450w PSU, but I am no pro at knowing..

Let me know how many watts and what model to pick up! Thanks!

this is the best gold certified that's cheap. You'll want a I high efficiency rated psu since it will be on 24/7 at full load, it will save you money in long run,.

There are some better choices but they are more money, what your budget?

You would agree a 450w psu is enough correct?

I dont have a budget. I am concerned with buying the correct parts for a 24/7 folding rig.

My full budget is $1000 but split up the each in its respective area to get the people that know most about each component to answer.. frankly not to many people are helping which is rather odd.

I also need a good case for a waterloop, then a waterloop kit or components , the psu your helping me select and then low voltage 2133mhz or higher ram (2x2gb). Then i need to figure out if im sticking with my 2600k at 4.9ghz for cpu folding then buying a used 2500k when ivy.launches or if ivy is a good oc.improvement a ivy equal to the 2600k
post #7 of 41
Well I can easy put together a build for ya for 1000!
Well stick with the 2600k ofcourse over the 2500k (hyper threading is used by folding)
IVy bridge might be a good upgrade for the 2600k but leave that to last.

Cooling use http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181017 best for just folding

Ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231451

Case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139006 this is one option but there are alot, just make sure you get one that has room for a 240 rad set up for your wc

and use any of the psu i listed before

How does the h100 compare to the wc loop in my sig rig? I had a h60 and with my high ambient room temps.i wasnt amazinly.happy.

With my current rig i fold for a team and well play games on it as well, which isnt too possible. Thats y with a $1000 from my tax refund i wantes to build a dedi folding rig. The 2500k would be to replace the 2600k but if the ivy was worth it i wouldnt mind keeping the 2600k on my gaming since its watercooled and oc nicely and i hope to do renderings one day if i wasnt.too lazy

Well looks like you got a 360 rad so it wont be as good, but the H100 should be more than enough for just feeding a cpu (H60 is single 120, H100 is a 240, big difference), what are you planing to clock at for 24/7?

Granite you could go crazy with the WC set up (look at mine I got 3 rads lol) but save your money, folding rigs should be cheap cause your not really using them for anything beside folding

Planning.on keeping the 4.9ghz @ 1.43vcore.. hoping the temps stay at 73c thats why.i was thinking.of builing.tje second waterloop. Not sure.if the h100 could achieve that temp.. what you think?

I agree im addicted to spending money and well that tax refund was mighty nice! Didnt have a full chance.to look over ur recommendations. On my phone
