2 Weeks running, "silver" kill coil covered in hazy algae?

Thread Starter
I've been running my "silver" kill coil with distilled for about two weeks now and had to refill it recently. I noticed my kill coil was covered in a thin film of algae. Is this normal? I'll try to get some pics up if I can.

Leads me to believe the silver is not really silver. Or it is silver and is removing impurities from something.

Any ideas?

Algae should not grow easily on silver. Are you sure that's not tarnish?

If it is silver, then it can't be algea. Silver is a microbiocide could be oxydation though I don't know what kind of metal coupling could do that color...
