"DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" question

I hope I'm posting this in the correct section. I do apologize if I'm not. So I'm building a brand new rig (my first one) when I get an AE debug code on my motherboard in conjunction with the "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" on my monitor. I have everything installed except for my HDD. I'm still awaiting my HDD to be delivered. I wanted to test everything out and make sure my fans worked and check the idle temps in bios. Well, I disconnected the power and data cables from my optical drive and started the system back up. Sure enough, I was able to get right into bios without issue and no "disk boot failure" message. Plugged optical drive in, started again, got the message again. I realize that without a OS or harddrive I would get this message but my question is why does it only come up when optical drive is connected. I'd rather not be up all night worrying until my HDD arrives as I've spent a lot on this build and could use some piece of mind. This is my first build and I'm just learning everything now. Sorry for the "noob" question. Thank you in advance for any responses.

Once connected, the optical drive becomes a boot device. Since theres no boot files in the CD drive.... that message comes up.
Normal. Don't worry smile.gif
