Sluggish Windows Startup with 6600 - Page 2

Don't worry.. there are like 5 (yes five) processes alone for the Crossfire set up. Two instances of ati2evxx.exe and three instances of CLI.exe.

Let me guess... the desktop shows up fairly quickly, but then it just takes a whole while before you can actually do something...right? That's just the Crossfire being enabled, which takes indeed a good time.

Hard drives speed, usage (how full it is) and raided drives make the most differnce in startup time. Next time you start up check your HDD light, if it stays on for most of the time, then its your HDD thats bottleneckiing you. If it doesnt its something else. Then do the same and check your cpu usage at startup.

Just because you have a C2D doesn't mean you can slack off on keeping your system clean. In fact, it means you gotta be even more tedious. So you show off the real power of it

Download Spybot search and destroy, install it, update it and run it. Then, change it to be in advanced mode. Go to tools and then system startup. Click on each one and see what it says they do. If it's not needed then delete it. Once thats done, defrag your hard disk, and then run chkdsk /f on your main drive. Now, run CCleaner. This will clean out alot of the crap and should make a considerable difference.

From what Ive noticed ATI drivers add about 5-6 bars to windows xp loading.. NVIDIA's do not. This has been the case with over 6 computers i've built, nvidia drivers load alot faster than atis.

I bet if you uninstalled your ATI drivers it would load alot faster. Though, you need them =(

I had a system that would load windows with 1 bar, and then after i reformatted I could never get it to load windows that fast again on the same hardware and the same tweaks.

Had the same problem as you're describing. Once I hit some magic fsb Windows slows down to a crawl, but taking it back 5MHz speeds it right up again.

Have you tried lowering the OC a bit or adding more voltage to core, mch, ich or fsb?

Did you format your harddrive when you install your new/fresh C2D or are you using the same window and just start your computer up with that new cpu?
