Google is your friend.
Microstutter exists in every multiGPU setup, that's simply how alternate frame rendering works.
You can't fix it with BIOS settings, the only way to fix it is to try different settings in game, frame limiters and Radeonpro tweaks.

I love my 6950's!
I don't think he did womething wrong. Just because you can't see microstutter doesn't mean everyone else are different wink.gif
The most annoying thing for me about CFX and SLI is how input lag is increased by at least two frames (you can reduce to one frame with RadeonPro, but then you will get microstutter no matter what.)

For me, CFX and SLI is an endless amount of work tweaking settings for every game and is also delivering subpar performance compared to a single, stronger card like 7970. A very infurating problem with SLI/CFX is how the experience is never error-free.

I went from 2 unlocked 6950s to a 7970. Sure 2 6950s is faster, but the single 7970 has better minimum framerates and smoother overall feel to gameplay and is close when overclocked.

Im not joining the bandwagon , i say get another 6950 you will be more impressed .. Just use the latest drivers and cap , shouldn't have any issues at all .
7950 isnt leaps and bounds faster than a 6950 , maybe 10-15% .. compared to 40-50% increase when adding another 6950 .. You will be dissapoint with 7950 i reckon .
though you could get the 7950 and another one later on , that will give you best performance .

I tried BF3 Ultra on my 6950s @ 950/1500. It was NOT smooth, it was horribly unplayable. I ended up playing the game at high with no AA and a 100 fps cap, and even then it was far from smooth and responsive.

A 7970 is about 50% faster than a stock 6950. A single 7970 at stock was noticeably smoother and more responsive in games than 6950 CFX ever was for me.

And it is not a matter of user error, I notice the microstuttering on other people's setups running CFX and SLI as well, and I have tried everything from frame limiters, countless driver versions and CAP combinations, higher/lower CPU clocks. The fact is that some people are more sensitive to microstutter, just like FOV and input lag. Those here dismissing these problems as user error are displaying incredible amounts of ignorance.

wrong, did you not understand my post? I've relieved any and all micro stuttering. That means I have none what so ever with my xfire setup.
If you do some research you can find many fixes to help relieve the issue.

There is also a registry edit to help with it as well.

Like I said before I did some work and found out some "tweaks" to get the best xfire setting and smoothness, only issue I did have with xfire was my dxtory and that was resolved with some setting changes as well.

No, he's right. It's because of the way AFR works.

If you dump the frame times of a benchmark sequence from a CFX setup and from a single-GPU setup, the CFX setup will have greater frame time variance.

The Tech Report published a great article about it.

When I said I had tried everything, I mean absolutely everything. That includes:
Registry tweaks supposed to help
About 50 combinations of drivers (11.4 to 11.12) and the accompanying CAPs
RadeonPro (Flip queue size, Supertiling, CFX-profile and etc)
Higher and lower game settings in/out of game.
Powertune -20% to +20%
CPU clock frequencies
RAM timings and frequencies
Core parking on/off
Hyperthreading on/off
Different CPU architectures

While some of these things definitely helped, it was never good enough for me, and it was never comparable to a single 7970 (that's a 7970 at stock vs 6950s @ 950/1500). I have used well over 60 hours trying out all this stuff, I have simply concluded I can never be satisfied with CFX or SLI the way that it works now.

The fact that you claim user error makes me pretty annoyed when I probably have tried more settings and combinations than most people.

i've had a bad experience with crossfire as well. i play on a 17" CRT, so i figured a 5970 would be perfect for me. boy i was wrong. bad stuttering in a lot of games and reduced responsiveness. i ended up "downgrading" to a single gtx 460, but my games actually run just as well without the stuttering. i have read that x3 crossfire helps to solve this problem to an extent, but regardless, i'll take a single-gpu solution over crossfire/sli any day.
You have to envy those that don't perceive it though. Like people back in CRT days who could sit in front of a low refresh monitor all day and not get headaches. They were lucky!

that is your issue. No offense but you prob tried to mess with too many things and made things more complex than they needed to be.

Use the below-

I have 12.1 installed (no cap)(make sure to uninstall any cap and previous drivers)
the registry tweak found here: http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2435979&postcount=7326
disable fhe following in the bios:
-CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E)
-C3/C6 State Support
-CPU EIST Function

and that is it. Works like a charm. I dont have to dumb down my graphics in order to be able to play anything. Even skryim and that is a picky game when it comes to multi-gpu's.

OMG Crossfire sucks? What do I do now, I'm running three 7970s lol.
