A 750 can handle an overclocked 2600k and two 580's. The 7970's are less power so whatever he had probably would've worked.

They can go higher than that to. While a 2500k build is all I would recommend for gaming, if you have the cash to build a monster rig (which it seems like this guy does obviously) might as well go X79 to get more PCI-E lanes and PCI-E 3.0. Some of the boards aren't even too much more expensive than the mid to high end 1155 boards.
I think I'm the one that said that. I didn't realize you'd be able to bump the BCLK quite that much. Thanks for the info though.
