New Build Problems - No display, no beeps, powers down, Need URGENT Help

I've just put together a PC with these specs:

FX-4100
8GB Kingston KVR
ASRock N68-VS3 UCC
Corsair CX-500 V2
GTX 560 Ti
CoolerMaster Elite 335U
Seagate Barracuda 1TB
LG DVD/RW

When I first plugged it in, it would power up for about four seconds and then turn off.

I fixed that somehow, after I rebuilt it.

Now I can't see any display on the screen at all. I've tried HDMI via the graphics card, and I've tried VGA (D-Sub) through the motherboard, neither does anything.

Also, I don't really hear any beeps from the motherboard although the speaker cable is plugged in.

I understand it's a low quality motherboard but I've built the same system before with a GTS 250 and it worked perfectly.

To make sure it's not a short, I put some cardboard where the stand-offs are and under each screw on the motherboard so that the screws aren't actually touching, I was hoping this would fix it.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks a lot, Josh

When you say power up what do you mean? What does it do when you hit the power button? Any fans spin up?

By speaker cable you do mean the motherboards speaker and not the desktop speakers right?

So the board isn't even POSTing at this stage?

Sorry for the nooby questions but we have to start somewhere smile.gif

Sorry for not answering these basics before you had to ask, I re-read a few times and obviously forgot them haha.

When I plug in the cable, immediately the fans spin on the graphics card, CPU and chassis fan.

The motherboard speaker cable is what I meant, not the actual speaker system.

The board is not posting at all via HDMI or D-Sub.

Thanks for the questions, hopefully it's resolved soon it's for a friend who's quite impatient.

What is the wattage of the psu? Does it meet mmin requirements? Seems power related to me. Do you have a spare psu to try?

Make sure you are putting the ram in the correct slots, better yet try with 1 stick of ram and move it around from slot to slot to see if that solves your problem.

The PSU is definitely good enough for this build, it's basically the best cheap power supply you can get really. Even a Corsair CX430 PSU would be good enough for this.

I'll give it a try tomorrow with a new PSU.

evilDSM: There's only two slots on the board, it's tiny. I'll try it with just one slot though but I'm fairly certain it's not the problem as there's no beeps at all, RAM would normally give me a few beeps indicating a problem. Thanks a lot for helping though.

Your motherboard offers no support for Bulldozer CPU's like the FX-4100.

That yer problem.

You're going to need a AM3+ or AM3 board with AM3+ compatibility. This board does NOT have that.

[QUOTE name="Wiki"
AM3+ is a modification of the AM3 Socket designed for future "Zambezi" CPUs which use the new Bulldozer microarchitecture and will retain compatibility with AM3 processors.[8] The set of features is not yet known.

An early preview of a motherboard from MSI, indicates Socket AM3+ is also known as Socket AM3b. The pin-count for this revised socket is 942-pins.
Some manufacturers have announced that some of their AM3 motherboards will support AM3+ CPUs, after a simple BIOS upgrade. Mechanical compatibility has been confirmed and it's possible AM3+ CPUs will work in AM3 boards, provided they can supply enough peak current. Another issue might be the use of the sideband temperature sensor interface for reading the temperature from the CPU. Also, certain power-saving features may not work, due to lack of support for rapid VCore switching. Note that use of AM3+ CPUs in AM3 boards may not be officially supported by AMD.
[/QUOTE]
AsRock N68-VS3 UCC is a AM3 socket motherboard it can not support AM3+ CPU
i would recommend you to change you motherboard to something like
Cheapest to expensive
GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-S2P 60$
ASRock 870 Extreme3 R2.0 AM3+ 80$(i would recommend you this motherboard i think it has best VFM)
ASUS M5A97 AM3+ 95$
ASRock 970 EXTREME4 110$
BIOSTAR TA990FXE AM3+ 130$
GIGABYTE GA-990XA-UD3 AM3+ 140$
ASUS M5A99X EVO AM3+ 145$
GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 155$

Hope that helped thumb.gif
