Upgrade from 5970 to which card?

Thread Starter
I may have a pretty good deal lined up to sell my 5970 and I wanna try and take it before the market for these cards falls off the face of the earth. Not sure where to go from here though. I'll be getting my 3rd monitor here soon so I will be running eyefinity and the 1GB of ram on my card worries me which is one of the main reasons for looking to upgrade. I'll have to save some $$$ even after selling my card but I'm not real sure where to go from here. Obviously the 7970 jumps out at me as its king right now, but is it worth the money? 7950 looks good as well but as far as fps I think it may be a step down from my card, but I would have plenty of video mem. Then theres also the option of picking up a second hand 6970/6950 crossfire setup for around the same price point of the 7900 cards. Just looking for opinions. If it were you, knowing that you'll have to save $200-$300 depending on card/s and knowing you'll be running eyefinity, what would you do?

I would DEF go with a 7970 3 gb v ram still higher then a 6970 2gb cf build. plus the heat and power consumption from crossfire and compatibility with games. I would seriously consider a single card solution over a crossfire build any day thumb.gif

This.

Everyone thinks cause a card can be overclocked to another cards speed, you shouldn't overclock the other card and get even faster. Clock per clock the 7970 is still going to be faster. Get a 7970, OC it as far as you want to and enjoy the best on market right now... ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Get a 7970 if you want to keep the same performance with eyefinity. If you really want to step up the performance, wait for the 7990. redface.gif

So far looks like I'll go with a 7970. Any arguments for picking another option?
