Woodcrest vs. Italy

Thread Starter
I'm building a higher end server this week. I have spec'd out two boxes. Everything is the same except one is AMD and one is Intel.

Can anyone tell me if a dual - dualcore woodcrest or a dual - dualcore Italy is better for overall throughput. Is the DDR2 667 a major victory for the woodcrest over italys DDR400 standard?

Any input will be appreciated.

EDIT: To compare apples to apples, both are at the 2.0 Ghz default. (Xeon 5130 vs. Italy 270)

Well, seeing as the new Woodcrest chips do more ops per cycle than the Opteron's, Woodcrest will definitely have the advantage. However, Italy is better at scaling in dual-processor situations, so that match may come out as a tie.....

woodcrest will burn italy in UP and DP for sure.

Italy could edge out in 4 socket systems, but FB-DIMM gives you a lot better RAS.
