Thread Starter
I am Looking to build a Custom rig for my brother for under $400. He is not a heavy gamer so just need a good setup with reliability and some future proofing. He has Monitor, HDD, DVD, keyboard and mouse I will be using for this. I am using Newegg to buy all parts.

Here is what I came up with so far:

AMD A8-3870K Unlocked Llano 3.0GHz Socket FM1 100W Quad-Core Desktop APU with DirectX 11 Graphic AMD Radeon HD 6550D AD3870WNGXBOXhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819106001 $139.99
$14 Promo Code for this CPU

GIGABYTE GA-A75-UD4H FM1 AMD A75 (Hudson D3) SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128515 $114.99
$40 Combo Discount for CPU & Mobo

CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233144 $49.99

CORSAIR Builder Series CX500 V2 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139027 $59.99
$15 Combo Discount for PSU & RAM

Rosewill CHALLENGER Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147153 $54.99

All together with Shipping it will be $350

Do you have any suggestions for better set up for under $400 or issues with compatability on my selection?

Any input would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Mr. Noob

Everything looks fine except the PSU I have heard a lot about them having issues. I have a 3870K with a Gigabyte board and its really nice. I would say go with something different for a PSU.

Pick up a nice GPU for around $40~$80 (5770, 4870, 550, etc) and you'll run most games at medium settings fine.

I have seen this shell shocker deal but this one is ATX12V v2.2, PCI-Express Connector1 x 6-Pin, 1 x 6+2-Pin and the one I got is ATX12V v2.3 PCI-Express Connector 2 x 6+2-Pin plus mine also got mail in rebate so price difference is $5. Thanks for thew input though.
