Non-ECC vs ECC Ram with FX 8120 and Sabertooth 990FX ?

Thread Starter
This may have been discussed, I checked a few pages back but didn't see anything. Anyway I'm running an FX 8120 with Sabertooth 990 FX and 'am currently using Non-ECC Ram ( 8 GB Kingston 1600)
It looks as though the Sabertooth supports ECC Ram and I just wanted to know, other than the obvious error checking is there any performance or other advantage to ECC Ram. I saw a Crucial video on the subject that said ECC ram actually imparts a small drop in performance.
Any thoughts appreciated.

It is of no use to home machines, it is alot more error resistant then non ecc ram however.

It's really meant for servers or 100% uptime equipment that needs to stay running for critical apps.

Doing some googling there is also about 3-5% performance drop which is very minimal these days but it is there. In other words unless the machine you just built is going to be running as a server 24/7 for a business it's nothing to worry about at all.

Same question. I have sabertooth 990FX with FX-8150, and 16 Gb Crucial Vengeance ram at 1600.

I'm looking to switch to ECC ram since my machine is running 24/7 as a server. I choose this system because the whole thing (cpu + motherboard) was cheaper than just an opteron 6220 cpu, and basically the fx-8150 is a faster better chip. Also opteron motherboards are a lot more expensive.

So anyway, now I want to run 32 gb ecc ram. Specifically, thinking of these chips:

Wintec 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC Registered DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Server Memory Model 3RSH13339R5H-32GQ

Anyone knows if this runs on this board?

Thank you.

I'd e-mail Asus/Wintec for confirmation before purchase.
