Hello everybody, I just installed a 2nd power supply in my Aerocool strike-x S.T. build that I finished last week. It had been restarting and acting wierd and everyone said that my O.C.Z. 550 watt 2 rail power supply wasnt enough. I'm running : Asrock Fatality mobo,AMD FX-8120 , G.Skill Ripjaws-X- 1600 4 gig x 2 sticks, Sapphire 6870 card, Strike-x l.c.d. fan controller and temp panel, 9 fans, 2 optical drives (1-blu-ray), 3 hard drives (1-60 gig corsair ssd and 2 mechanicals one being fast for gaming and one large for storage), 4 cold cathodes, Zalman 9900 MAX red l.e.d. cpu cooler, and a kworld pci t.v. tuner card. I also connect a 500 gig external hard drive for backups. Well I added the power supply up top (there was room for another) and it's 300 watts. I connected it to my optical drives and all the fans and lights. When I tried to start Shogun 2 total war on steam, it got all the way to asking me which direct x version to use and then it restarted the computer again. Any ideas?? Thanks

That seems like a PSU problem alright.

The other thing it might be is your CPU overheating. However, I highly doubt that.

does zalman coolers come with junk paste? ibhad a hard time spreading it.would arctic silver be better ?

Well, check your temps, man. If you go into the BIOS, the temps in there should be no more than 50*C. If they are, you found your problem. If they aren't then go and download CoreTemp and run Prime95 (or Shogun 2) and monitor temps. The maximum temp before shutdown is, I think, 95*C.

If none of that gives any indication to your problem, its your PSU.

Well, I installed my 2nd power supply up top (300 watt) and put both optical drives and all of the fans and the lcd touch screen controller on it to save more power for the main 550 watt OCZ supply. I had to "trick" the 2nd power supply into thinking it was plugged into the mobo by running a jumper wire from the green to a black on the 24 pin plug. I also took off the Zalman and cleaned off all that crappy paste (it wasn't even dry yet) and reinstalled it with good quality ceramic paste and BAM! Temps were at 7 degrees celcius at idle and 22 degrees under load! I wondered after buying the latest and greatest Zalman coolwer why the temps were 80 celsius und up... Happened onto a couple reviews about the paste they supply being junk, and Newegg actually gives arctic silver free with their zalmans and that told me what to do. I had bought mine from x-oxide with my case and all my modding products and they dont supply it nor have reviews like newegg does. I have to reinstall Steam in order to check Shogun 2 but everything else is running like it should. I also got the 2 hotfixes for the bulldozer installed from Microsoft to make the scheduler run correctly and not shot off cores.Here's a log of how she's running...
