The biggest thing is your attitude. She was a feisty woman, and I think that's what helped her through it. My prayers to your family and your mother-in-law.
So in my browsing of other work logs, I've seen the importance of having an organized work log - so I've gone through and cleaned up the thread a bit. Again, this is my first documented work log, so bear with me if it's not 'up to par'. I've created an index in the original post as well as a "Current Pic" which I will continue to update when additional pics are added. I think I'll work on making a graphic sig for this build as well. Man, creating the work log is almost as much work as the mod itself wink.gif

Thanks for the prayers. She is having a major surgery this Friday (the Dr is hopeful that the surgery will be all she needs).
Attitude makes a huge difference. My dad was given less than 3 months when he was diagnosed, but was able to hang on for 11 months.

Yea, having a nice and organized work log is kind of a pain (especially if you have to go back and organize it) but it does make it easier to read and once started is easier to keep updated.

It also helps if you get nominated for a Case mod contest fo others to see you build progress.

With so many great builds on here, it'd be awesome just to get nominated!

I'm liking the idea more and more as I get deeper into it thumb.gif. I tried redoing the bay cover and taking my time with it. I got a little bit more of a reflection, but I think stopping at 1500 then polishing is what's getting me. Going to get some 2000 and possibly 2500 tomorrow and keep at it. It's basically a reflection, but a bit of a dull one. I'm trying to get a truly chrome-like appearance on this aluminum. I also ordered another bay cover, so that should be here in a few days. I'm sure by then I'll be ready for it. All that's left for the case portion of the mod is buffing/polishing these bay covers, and 'chroming' the silver parts of the case. Getting excited that I'm almost done, then comes the 'transplant' from my current Antec 900 to the new case along with some sleeving and a new heatsink.

First drive bay cover complete! I went down to an auto body shop to see if they had some 2500 grit for sale, and I ended up in a conversation with one of the guys there about what I was doing. I told him what I was running into and told him how I was doing it. He just said, "You're doing good, just keep buffing!"... so I went home and started over with some 1500, taking my time. Then bumped up to 2000. After 2000 I started buffing away with some 3M rubbing compound. I buffed, and buffed, and buffed. After about 8 times, I realllly started noticing a difference. So I kept going, and every time I passed over it, it just got better and better. Finally (around 14-16 passes), I was content with what I got. I then polished it with some metal polish. I did the same with the sides, although I only went with 800 grit to those - I just wanted to give it a little shine so you can see it in the drive cage. This is the first one done (still waiting for my replacement) - so I have 3 more 5.25's left and 2 3.5's left. Here's a little teaser of both the cover and the side panel with CF wrap - presented to you by my son's little toy rooster biggrin.gif

(The point-and-shoot really doesn't do it justice. It's focusing too much on the toy and leaving the reflection somewhat blurred. Once I finish up everything, I'll put together some nicer pics)
450

I'm really excited now that I have a finished product that I'm happy with. I'm ready to knock these other drive covers out thumb.gif More to come!

Just a quick update - been really busy with things lately, so haven't had much time to make updates. Most of my work, however, has been on polishing the bay covers.

Thanks! I've finished all of the covers now and I also did the 240mm rad grill as well. It all came out great! Going to make a photo set up to take some quality pics, so will update soon.

On another note - I'm having difficulty with 'chroming' the plastic, as different methods I'm trying either just flat out didn't work, or I didn't like the way it looked. These have been some expensive lessons as well with what works and what doesn't work. I've tried MonoKote (which is fairly cheap) and it didn't work. I've just tried the Alsa stretch chrome vinyl, and it just doesn't work with the amount of curves that are in the front panel. I can do the top and the underside of the handle with it, but then it wouldn't match if I used another method for the front. The Alsa chrome was the 'expensive lesson' redface.gif

So I'm going to have to do some research in to how I'm going to get a chrome or near-chrome look on the plastic pieces I have. I can always come back to prepping the plastic and try painting. I may just pick up some paint and experiment with some spare plastic parts to see how they come out. If anyone has ideas on how I could get that done, I'd love to hear them as well. While I roll ideas in my head, I will be finishing up everything else with the case that I can get done, such as the fans, grills, feet, etc.

Figured I'd give a quick update since it's been more than a week. I've been doing a lot of research into how I'm going to get this chroming done. Part of the 'theme' of this build was also cost - but balancing cost with quality is the key. There could have been ways I could have accomplished the chroming at a low cost, but it would have looked like garbage - and that is not who I am. I tried working with the paint and it just doesn't work. You can't chrome with paint, that's just the bottom line. Will they ever be able to? Who knows... I had a nice conversation with a paint shop guy and he offered to do it for me with the special spray on chrome (just Google 'spray on chrome', and you can see all the different companies that have videos of this "revolutionary chrome system"). I thought to myself, this can't be that hard to figure out. So after some more research, I found that it's not revolutionary at all and it's been done since the 1800's - it's just recently that it's being used in large spray on applications. I found a website where I can purchase the materials to do the chroming and have ordered it (should be here mid-next week). I've seen the spray on chrome system and knew this would be my 'last resort', as it would accomplish exactly what I wanted, but at a higher cost. After all my 'test runs' with other methods (MonoKote, stretch chrome, metallic paints), I've decided that nothing accomplishes the look and quality I want then the spray on chrome system or 'true' chroming.

So this is it - I will be getting the chroming system that will get the plastic panels done. After I chrome the plastic, I'll be clear coating it for protection. I can then finish up with the finishing touches with the fans, feet, etc. and the case will be done. After that I can move on to sleeving my PSU and transferring my rig to the new case and finally completing this build!

On a side note - since I will be doing the chroming myself and not getting specific parts done, I will have room to use the chrome on other parts of the case. I have a few ideas and am VERY excited to try out and even more excited to show you guys. Stay tuned!
