Is the 5870 still a good card? (replacing 4770) - Page 2

It's been a few months and I'd just like to mention I'm extremely pleased with the 5870

I only paid $150 for it but in many games like Portal 2 it beats the currently $250 7850 all the way up to 2560x1600
http://www.anandtech.com/show/5625/amd-radeon-hd-7870-ghz-edition-radeon-hd-7850-review-rounding-out-southern-islands/10

So far it's run everything I can throw at it with no problems.

Definitely the best bang for the buck

I love my 5870's... Definitely my favorite card AMD/ATI has ever made, just in front of the 4890.

Problem with video cards is they have a pricing range of $500, from ~$50 to ~$550, so paying just another $50 can put you in an entirely different category of cards, especially when you throw in last generation cards.

The 6950 is not much faster than the 5870, in almost every benchmark it's a difference of less than 10% , and most are less than 5%
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/294?vs=331

Even now, of the 16 ati 6950 recently listed on eBay, none sold for less than $150 with shipping. Least expensive was $152.50 shipped, and six sold for almost $200 or more
http://www.ebay.com/csc/Graphics-Video-Cards-/27386/i.html?_nkw=ati%206950&LH_Complete=1&_sop=15

So I have 95% of the performance of a ati 6950 for about $50 less than what a ati 6950 sells for.

The HD5870 is a really good GPU that handle current games. I got mine back in dec for $140 and it has been all good for me for BF3.
the price ranges from $135-$170 for the HD5870.

You can pick up the HD6950 around the forums for about $170-$200 which is a pretty good if you can get it for $170ish based from what i have seen at the marketplace at HardOCP and here.

Get yourself a used 6950 if it absolutely has to be under $200, it's worth the few extra over a 5870, especially if you can unlock it.
If you can expand the budget a bit, then you could pick up a 7850 for as little as $240 (worth it IMO, they OC like bandits + yield nice performance from it and have very low power-draw)
