AMD may be ahead but not anymore when Ivy lands.

I still don't see why people are so riled up about IB. It's not much different than SB. It might clock a bit better but that's it If AMD fixes issues with power consumption and single threaded performance with PD, it will give IB a run for its money IMO.

AMD better hope that Ivy only brings a small improvement to the table, otherwise the release of Piledriver could be underwhelming. That said, I think AMD might learn from what's happened with BD but single threaded performance may be hard to improve with how they've designed BD. However IB is predicited to have 10%-15% more power than SB, will only run at a max 77W TDP and looks to be priced roughly the same as SB. I'm sure we'd all like to see AMD present some competition with Intel. Here's hoping that Piledriver does MUCH better than BD did.

I only really started to learn about computers when they were kicking up a marketing storm over bulldozer, so back then I thought it was going to be great. As of now i've learnt to trust benchmarks and not trust marketing as much, it'll be interesting to see what the revisions do to bulldozer, other than that, i'm staying out of it. For right now, It seems best to get Intel for the cpu, and AMD for the gpu. That might change in time, I just hope for some competition.

Even if FX is ahead of it's time, the point is that it doesn't really deliver right now... By the time architectures like BD are used properly the current FX chips will be long outdated and replaced with much better products.

Core for core at the same clock speed, Phenom II was near equal to Intel's Core 2.
So, if Bulldozer loses to Phenom II at the same clock speed, you get lower single threaded performance than a Core 2 Duo from 2006.
"AMD FX...Ahead of time"
Yeah, check maybe 6 years behind.
lame%20per%20core.png

I am well aware that multi-threaded performance is important too, and naturally 32nm processors can overclock higher but calling Bulldozer ahead of time is just nonsense.
PS. I have better things to be a fan of, than CPU companies. Also, I've bought 3 AMD cpus and 2 gpus these last 3 years, so don't call me a fanboy, OK?

i'm just being realistic, 16 cores per 65w means nothing if intel can offer more performance per 65w. Core frequency, core count means nothing (all though it is easier to code for less cores). Its all about the bottom line - performance / price or performance / watts. Right now AMD is playing catchup on the first and cant really compete on the second. At the end of the day i don't care who manufactures the chip i use, i just want the most i can get for my buck in a certain performance range.

Number game? Is that all about? Here are some good numbers thumb.gif
See. I'm not an expert on this. But it doesn't mean I don't make sense. If you do look closely you'll see the future of the CPU's. Some guys are appreciating the new foundation. But some just want to swallow big numbers under their throat. I don't know may be I'm not true about 'ahead of time' thing. But what make sense makes sense. If you read carefully what I've written(skipping 'ahead of time' yeah some guys don't see the bigger picture rolleyes.gif) then it certainly makes sense thumb.gif

Talking about 'the bigger picture' and then cherry picking benchmarks is not really what I'd call making sense.

No dude. It was never about numbers. Don't get me wrong smile.gif I was simply hoping to get inputs from you guys(who I presume to be more experienced than me). I'm quite new to this. So tell me do you want everything to make sense from newbie??? And don't you think its pretty offensive when you say like that(nonsense??)
