[MacRumors] Apple Releases First Developer Preview of OS X Mountain Lion, Public Launch in Late Summer - Page 2

Whoever named 10.8 should be fired. Guys remember 10.1, it was named Puma rolleyes.gif...Puma = Mountain Lion. At least 10.1 =/= 10.8 lol

Messages for OSX sounds awesome. Always annoying when you wish you could text someone from your computer but there was no way to.

What exactly does a Windows service pack bring to the table? It's merely a bunch of security and driver updates, as well as some improvements under the hood, and bug fixes.

An OS X release on the other hand, brings new software and an improved UI as well as under the hood changes. Calling OS X a service pack is just something people do to try and justify the absurdly high price of Windows software.

I just don't like how they add these "must have" features every 6-8 months it seems and want another $30. I don't really feel that Lion was as big of a step as Snow Leopard was. The only real reason I use lion now is because of the ability to drag window size from all sides of the box now. biggrin.gif Unfortunately they kind of killed Expose and Spaces in LION the new "feature" mission control doesn't seem nearly as convenient, at least not in the way I use it.
I know, I'm hoping they improve Mission Control in Mountain Lion. I find each individual function (Expose + Spaces) has taken a little bit of a hit, but is simpler overall -- I do like it though, they just need to improve it a bit.

But to comment on the bolded statement ..... No It is $30 each mac. Not just $30 for total... sure technically you could use 1 disc with no repercussions but that is what we call Theft.
Actually it is. Snow Leopard which was a physical release and could be bought for $30 for a single upgrade, or $60 for a five pack, or $200 for the OS and iWork and iLife, or $250 for a five pack. Lion is $30 for ALL Macs attached to your iTunes account. (I might add, I was primarily referring to the latter.)

Wow this seems pretty cool, I guess Apple makes some pretty good products.

I was actually going to upgrade to Ivy Bridge when it comes out, but I think now I'm going to sell my sig rig and upgrade to a nice Apple Mac or MacBook.

If you did do that, make sure you wait for the next generation MacBook Pro's or the next generation iMacs.

By the looks of things this update is doing to Lion what Snow Leopard did to Leopard.

10.X.1 is not a service pack, but I wouldn't call it a whole new OS either. 10.1.X is a service pack though.

$15 for education discount(students, faculty, staff and administration attending and/or working at an educational institution college/K-12). Can upgrade all of your machines with one license too. tongue.gif

Read the Lion SLA again. use and run one (1) copy of the Apple Software for use on each of the Mac Computer(s) that you own or control

I really like Apples notebook line too but I wouldn't sell my rig for one. Maybe just save up for awhile and buy one when you've got some extra cash?

Only 30 bucks... makes you kinda wonder how inferior Apple is to Windows superior OS.

Seeing as it's UNIX, you've got it completely backwards. Vista kernel is a joke compared to Darwin.
