corsair dominator and vengeance lp compatibility

Thread Starter
hello overclock.net
i want to buy some vengeance ram, so i have a question.
corsair vengeance lp works at 1600MHz, 9-9-9-24 with 1,50 volts and my
corsair dominator works at 1600MHz, 8-8-8-24 with 1,65 volts.
i have tested dominator today with 1,5 volts at 9-9-9-24 latencies and it works stable.
works stable with 1,45 volts too (tested with prime95, 2560mb of ram used for test)
should those ram sticks work fine together with stock settings of vengeance lp?

how about further overclocking? is vengeance good for it? what is maximum recommended voltage?

does vengeance and dominator have same manufacturing technology (eg. 40nm)?
or it doesn't matter..

this is why i want to buy low profile ram

vengeance sticks i want to buy

dominator sticks i already have

and should i put vengeance in both red slots, dominator in black ones (to have 6gb on each channel)

i use crosshair iv formula (890fx) with phenom 1090T
more details

sorry for bad english smile.gif

thanks for every reply smile.gif

It's never good to mix DDR3 RAM because it often will not function properly - if at all. In your case the two different RAM models with different voltages may be a problem.

Corsair says the latency and frequency rating on their RAM is for the specific DIMM or RAM kit that you buy. If you add another DIMM or RAM kit of the same part number, they are NOT guaranteed to run at the same latency and frequency as a single DIMM/RAM Kit.

So if the two kits will work you may need to run lower frequency than 1600 and slower latencies - if the two RAM kits will actually work together without issues?

If I were you I would e-mail Corsair Tech Support with your questions on mixing the two RAMs but it doesn't sound encouraging.

Thanks AMD man smile.gif , I've contacted them so I'm waiting for reply.
I forgot to say that I have tested my system with my friend's Kingston HyperX Blu (1600MHz, 9-9-9-24, 1,65v, 2GB single module) and it worked fine.

Some folks do have success with mixing RAM but it's always a crap shoot. Often you can't tell until you stress test it.

In theory it should ALL be interchangeable but it reality this is rarely the case. redface.gif
