calling all motherboard experts!!!

so a coworker (i swear, not me bruce.gif ), was disassembling a newer toshiba amd based laptop and somehow he damaged the mobo. doh.gif

attached is a pic i took with my phone (excuse the low res).

look at the circled in red area, it looks like several tiny tiny tiny components were knocked off the board next to the lcd jack.

now the lcd which has an integrated inverter is dim. it wasnt dim before the teardown, now, post damage, it is. brightness controls on kbd dont affect it.

what are those components? i want to see if we can order replacements and re-solder. you can see similar components adjacent, some are beige, some are black.

Contact the mobo manufactor and show them the image, along with what MB model you it is. They will tell you what the parts are. Once you know, buy some new ones and solder them in. Fixed. smile.gif

They look like tiny resistors designed to limit the flow of current in whatever circuit they were connected to.

To get replacements you would have to look up the board schematics and find out their values. However they are tiny, and there's a chance you might not be able to reattach them correctly.

To be honest... Its probably a lot quicker to get a new board.

Some of the conductor paths look to be scraped off of the board. From experience I would consider that board FUBAR. How does one scrape off components like that! confused.gif

Have you actually tried replacing the inverter?

They are usually what cause the LCD to display as super dim / barely anything there.

read my first post, the inverter is integrated with the lcd, its one of those newer models where the only cable leaving the lcd goes to the mobo jack, theres no seperate inverter with a cable come from anything else.

youre probably right, going to have to look up a replacement mobo anyway just to be safe. blah.
